3DescriptionCVE.org
The RabbitMQ Java client library allows Java and JVM-based applications to connect to and interact with RabbitMQ nodes. Prior to 5.37.0, com.rabbitmq.tools.json.JSONReader.read() fails to terminate when input ends inside a quoted string or a line comment because its string and whitespace scanners do not stop at CharacterIterator.DONE. The default DefaultJsonRpcMapper passes JSON-RPC message bodies to this parser for JsonRpcServer and client replies. A truncated string causes the parser to append replacement end markers until heap exhaustion, while a line comment without a terminating newline can keep a thread consuming CPU indefinitely, resulting in denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 5.37.0.
AnalysisAI
Malformed JSON-RPC message bodies can cause denial of service in RabbitMQ Java Client versions prior to 5.37.0. The flaw is in com.rabbitmq.tools.json.JSONReader.read(), which fails to stop at CharacterIterator.DONE when input ends inside a quoted string or a line comment; this can lead to heap exhaustion from appended replacement end markers or a thread spinning on CPU indefinitely. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the target application actually use RabbitMQ's JSON-RPC tooling - specifically a com.rabbitmq.tools.jsonrpc.JsonRpcServer (or client reply handling) backed by the DefaultJsonRpcMapper, which routes message bodies into the vulnerable JSONReader.read(). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, best treated as a hardening/availability fix rather than an emergency. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade RabbitMQ Java Client / com.rabbitmq:amqp-client to 5.37.0 or later; the patched release is available at https://github.com/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-java-client/releases/tag/v5.37.0, and the fix can be reviewed in PR #2100 and commit 25fad817291feff3195c32620117d295598f8b41. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
