MITRE ATT&CK

| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires network reach to a Kener instance (version 4.0.0 up to but not including 4.1.6) exposing the vulnerable dashboard API handlers (monitor-bar, monitor-bars, monitor-latency-chart, monitor-day-incidents/latency/maintenances/status). No authentication and no user interaction are required (PR:N/UI:N). The key LIMITING factor is that the attacker must supply a valid monitor tag - known or successfully guessed - so disclosure is confined to monitors whose tags can be identified; impact is restricted to confidentiality of monitor metadata (names, descriptions, status, uptime history, latency) with no write or availability effect. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, not a critical one. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) scores 6.9 and correctly reflects network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated access with low confidentiality impact only (VC:L; VI/VA:N) - there is no integrity or availability impact, so this is purely an information-disclosure flaw. The source-code diff confirms the root cause: dashboard API handlers (monitor-bar, monitor-bars, monitor-latency-chart, and several monitor-day-* endpoints) queried monitors by tag without filtering on status=ACTIVE and is_hidden=NO, so an attacker who supplies a valid tag receives data the operator intended to hide. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC is present in the provided data, which lowers the realistic urgency: there is no evidence of active exploitation or mass scanning. The main mitigating factor against widespread automated abuse is that exploitation requires a known or guessed monitor tag, so disclosure is bounded to monitors whose tags the attacker can identify. Signals are internally consistent - no conflict between the vector and the description - and the vendor fix is confirmed, so the primary decision driver is simply patching to 4.1.6, prioritized by how sensitive the hidden monitors are in a given deployment. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who discovers a public Kener status page sends unauthenticated GET/POST requests to dashboard API handlers such as monitor-bar or monitor-latency-chart, supplying monitor tags that are known or guessed. Because these endpoints lacked visibility filters before 4.1.6, the server returns names, descriptions, status, uptime history, and latency for monitors the operator deliberately marked hidden or inactive. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, but the attack is trivial to reproduce with a simple HTTP client. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 03, 2026
Unauthenticated information disclosure in the Kener status-page platform (4.0.0 up to but not including 4.1.6) lets remote attackers retrieve data on hidden or inactive monitors by calling dashboard API handlers - such as monitor-bar and monitor-latency-chart - that omit visibility filters. By supplying a known or guessed monitor tag, an attacker obtains names, descriptions, status, uptime history and latency for monitors that were intentionally concealed, with no authentication or user interaction required (CVSS 4.0 vector shows PR:N/UI:N). There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and this is assessed as a moderate-priority confidentiality-only issue whose impact is bounded by the need to already know or guess a valid tag.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor fix by upgrading Kener to 4.1.6 or later; the correction is contained in upstream commit e8ce31898bf73ffe6be07c9b299da2a7330ddba5, which adds active/hidden visibility filters to the affected handlers. If immediate upgrade is not possible, compensate by blocking or restricting external access to the vulnerable dashboard API paths (monitor-bar, monitor-bars, monitor-latency-chart, and the monitor-day-* endpoints) at a reverse proxy or WAF so only trusted networks can reach them - accepting that this breaks legitimate dashboard/embed functionality for external users. Reducing tag guessability (using long, non-obvious monitor tags) lowers but does not eliminate exposure, since the underlying API still returns hidden-monitor data when a correct tag is presented, and rotating tags may break existing embeds and links. Restrict network reachability to the Kener instance where it is not intended to be public. Reference the upstream issue (https://github.com/rajnandan1/kener/issues/848) and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/kener-4.0.0-before-4.1.6-hidden-monitor-data-disclosure-via-dashboard-api) for tracking.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Kener is a self-hosted status-page application built on SvelteKit, and this is a classic CWE-200 exposure of sensitive information through insufficient access control on API responses. The root cause is that several dashboard API handlers fetched monitors with lookups that ignored the monitor's lifecycle and visibility state, rather than filtering on the active/hidden flags. The upstream fix commit (e8ce31898bf73ffe6be07c9b299da2a7330ddba5) shows the pattern clearly: handlers that previously called db.getMonitorByTag(tag) or db.getMonitorsByTags(tags) or GetMonitorsParsed({ tag }) were changed to pass explicit predicates such as { tag, status: GC.ACTIVE, is_hidden: GC.NO }, so only visible, active monitors are returned. The affected code paths span monitor-bar/get.ts, monitor-bars/get.ts, monitor-day-incidents/post.ts, monitor-day-latency/post.ts, monitor-day-maintenances/post.ts, monitor-day-status/post.ts, and monitor-latency-chart/get.ts. Because these endpoints are part of the public dashboard API, they were reachable without authentication, and the only barrier to disclosure is possession of a valid monitor tag.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
Kener 4.0.0 before 4.1.6 contains an information disclosure vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to retrieve hidden or inactive monitor data by querying dashboard API handlers lacking visibility filters. Attackers can supply a known or guessed monitor tag to endpoints such as monitor-bar and monitor-latency-chart to obtain names, descriptions, status, uptime history and latency.
