Exploitation Conditions

Requires the FileRise Pro add-on to be installed AND at least one client portal to be configured; the attacker must also know or correctly guess that portal's slug, which is the sole value needed to call /api/pro/portals/get.php with no authentication. Limiting factors: the base-edition FileRise install is not affected (Pro-only endpoint), only portal metadata (internal storage folder path, client contact email, form settings, upload-policy details) is exposed rather than file contents or credentials, and the fix in v3.24.0 simply gates the endpoint behind an authenticated session while the public publicMeta.php branding endpoint remains open.

Impact

This is a moderate-severity information disclosure (CWE-200) with a self-consistent CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N = 5.3). The network vector and PR:N correctly reflect that /api/pro/portals/get.php returned a portal's full internal record to an unauthenticated caller, and the C:L/I:N/A:N impact matches a read-only metadata leak with no integrity or availability effect - the CVSS and the description agree, with no contradictory signals. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public exploit was provided in the input, so there is no evidence of active or opportunistic exploitation; this reads as a genuine but low-urgency issue rather than a top-priority emergency. Real-world risk is further constrained because exploitation requires the paid Pro add-on, at least one configured portal, and knowledge or a correct guess of the portal slug - reducing it from a mass-scannable flaw to a more targeted one. Overall: a legitimate confidentiality bug worth patching promptly for Pro users, but not a high-real-risk item for the broad FileRise population given its narrow preconditions and absence of exploitation signals.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who learns or guesses a valid portal slug sends an unauthenticated GET request to /api/pro/portals/get.php and receives the portal's full internal record - including the storage folder path, client contact email, form settings, and upload-policy details. This reconnaissance data could then inform follow-on social-engineering or targeting of the exposed storage path. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis, though the attack is trivial to reproduce from the description alone.

Alert me

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026

Unauthenticated information disclosure in the FileRise Pro portal-detail endpoint (/api/pro/portals/get.php) lets any remote caller who knows or guesses a client portal's slug retrieve that portal's full internal record, including internal storage folder paths, client contact email addresses, form settings, and upload-policy details, instead of the curated branding fields that the public publicMeta.php endpoint intentionally exposes. The flaw affects only installations running the FileRise Pro add-on with at least one configured client portal; base-edition FileRise deployments are unaffected, and file contents or credentials are not exposed. The issue carries a self-consistent CVSS 3.1 vector of AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N (5.3, CWE-200), and no public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis; it is resolved in FileRise 3.24.0.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to FileRise 3.24.0 or later, which gates /api/pro/portals/get.php behind an authenticated session; the release notes state no configuration, portal, account, Docker volume, or stored-data migration is required and that existing administrators and non-admin portal users retain access after signing in. After upgrading, any integration or script that previously called /api/pro/portals/get.php anonymously must be updated to either authenticate with a FileRise session or switch to /api/pro/portals/publicMeta.php for the curated branding fields; failing to do so will surface HTTP 401 responses and broken portal-listing automation. For environments that cannot patch immediately, the most effective compensating control is to block or require authentication for the path /api/pro/portals/get.php at the reverse proxy or WAF while leaving /api/pro/portals/publicMeta.php reachable for anonymous portal-login branding - the trade-off is that the Pro portal management UI and any integration depending on the endpoint will stop working for administrators unless they are explicitly allowlisted by source address. Disabling the Pro client-portal feature entirely removes the exposure but breaks all customer-facing upload portals. Rotating portal slugs is only a weak, temporary measure against guessing because the endpoint returns the same internal record to anyone who learns the new slug, and it does not remediate the missing authorization check. Verify remediation by confirming that an unauthenticated GET to /api/pro/portals/get.php?slug=<known-slug> returns HTTP 401, consistent with the vendor's added regression test.

Technical ContextAI · show details

FileRise is a self-hosted PHP web application for multi-file upload, editing, and batch file-management operations, distributed as error311/FileRise with CPE cpe:2.3:a:error311:filerise:* (all versions prior to the fix are in scope). The vulnerable component is a Pro add-on REST endpoint, public/api/pro/portals/get.php, which serves client-portal configuration used for branded, customer-facing file upload portals. The root cause is CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor): the endpoint performed no session or role check, so the caller's knowledge of the portal slug was the only authorization factor, and the handler returned the complete internal portal object rather than a filtered view. The accompanying commit shows the fix simply inserts a method guard and an authentication guard (fr_pro_guard_method('GET') and fr_pro_guard_auth(false, false)) at the top of the handler, causing unauthenticated requests to receive HTTP 401 while authenticated administrators and dedicated non-admin portal users continue to work. A separate endpoint, publicMeta.php, is deliberately left anonymous and continues to return only curated public branding data, establishing that the intended public surface was always the reduced metadata set. Because the portal-detail response includes the internal storage folder path, it hands an attacker reconnaissance material about the server's filesystem layout and about client identities via the contact email field, though it does not by itself read or modify stored files.

DescriptionCVE.org

FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.24.0, FileRise Pro /api/pro/portals/get.php returns a configured client portal's full internal record to an unauthenticated caller who knows or guesses the portal slug. The response includes the internal storage folder path, client contact email, form settings, and upload-policy details, while the separate publicMeta.php endpoint intentionally exposes only curated branding data. Exploitation requires the Pro add-on and at least one configured portal. This issue is fixed in version 3.24.0.
