MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Collection, Discovery The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated account with subscriber-level privileges or above on the target WordPress site (PR:L), and the site must have the Otter Blocks Form feature in use so that the themeisle_blocks_form_emails option is non-empty - the normal state once any Form block has been saved - which causes the vulnerable widget to be registered. Exploitation is performed via the 'otter_form_widget_filter' parameter. Limiting factors: the attacker must first obtain a valid account (so sites with closed/approval-based registration raise the bar considerably), only a small, fixed set of data is exposed (five most recent submitter emails, their dates, and a total count), and sites that never use the Form block are not affected. No user interaction by a victim is required (UI:N). |
| Impact | This is a low-severity information-disclosure issue (CVSS 3.1 base 3.1) and the real-world risk signals are consistently low rather than conflicting. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) indicates a network-reachable but authenticated flaw with only limited confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact. No EPSS score was supplied in the input, and there is no CISA KEV listing and no public proof-of-concept referenced - only a Wordfence threat-intel entry and the WordPress plugin source lines showing the vulnerable code. Exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The authentication requirement (PR:L, subscriber-level) meaningfully limits who can abuse this: an attacker must already hold a registered account on the target site. The practical payoff is also narrow - the email addresses of only the five most recent form submitters, their submission dates, and a total submission count - so this is a privacy/data-leak concern rather than a system-compromise priority. Net: a genuine but low-priority finding; patch in routine maintenance cycles, prioritizing sites that allow open user registration (where subscriber accounts are trivially obtained) and that actively collect form submissions containing sensitive contacts. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers (or already holds) a subscriber-level account on a WordPress site running Otter Blocks ≤3.2.6 that uses the plugin's Form block. Using the otter_form_widget_filter parameter, they query the dashboard widget and harvest the email addresses, submission timestamps, and total submission count of the five most recent form submitters. No public exploit code is referenced, and the elevated attack complexity (AC:H) plus required authentication make this opportunistic data skimming rather than mass exploitation. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 02, 2026
Sensitive information exposure in the Otter Blocks WordPress plugin (all versions up to and including 3.2.6) allows any authenticated user with subscriber-level access or above to retrieve the email addresses and submission dates of the five most recent form submitters, along with the site's total form submission count, by manipulating the 'otter_form_widget_filter' parameter. The vulnerable widget is registered whenever the themeisle_blocks_form_emails option is non-empty - the normal state on any site that has saved a Form block - so the exposure is live on standard sites using the plugin's form feature. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and no evidence of active exploitation; the exposed data set is small and fixed, and the independent assessment rates real-world risk as consistently low (low-severity information disclosure under CVSS 3.1, assessed vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N).
RemediationAI
Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed - the plugin changeset at https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3719861%40otter-blocks&new=3719861%40otter-blocks indicates the vulnerable widget code was modified, so administrators should update Otter Blocks to the first release published after 3.2.6 as soon as it appears in the WordPress.org plugin repository, verifying the fixed version against the vendor advisory at https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/6cf22af6-3e25-43ae-b10d-f343720e722a?source=cve rather than assuming a version number. If immediate upgrading is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to break the precondition for widget registration: remove the Otter Form block from published content and clear or empty the themeisle_blocks_form_emails option in wp_options, which stops the vulnerable widget being registered at the cost of losing the stored submission records and any dashboard reporting built on them. Administrators should also harden the account-acquisition step that exploitation depends on (PR:L) by disabling open subscriber self-registration or moving to approval-based/closed registration, and reviewing existing subscriber accounts, since any low-privileged account is sufficient to query the endpoint. Note that subscriber accounts already obtained cannot be distinguished from legitimate ones by the plugin, so account hygiene is a mitigation of opportunity rather than a fix. Additionally, review the form-records custom post type for historic submitter data and consider limiting or purging stored submissions, accepting the trade-off that this removes records the site may need for follow-up. These measures reduce exposure and difficulty for attackers but do not substitute for applying the upstream fix once a patched release is confirmed, and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, so prioritisation can follow normal low-severity patch cycles.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The Otter Blocks plugin extends the WordPress Gutenberg block editor with a Form block whose submissions are stored as a custom post type and surfaced through dashboard/widget rendering code. The affected logic lives in inc/plugins/class-dashboard.php (around lines 852, 865 and 874) and inc/plugins/class-form-records-post-type.php (line 58), where the 'otter_form_widget_filter' parameter is used to drive the rendering of a form-records widget. Because the widget is registered whenever the themeisle_blocks_form_emails option is populated - which happens automatically once any Form block is saved - the disclosure path is enabled by default on sites using the form feature. The root cause falls under CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor): the widget's output path returns submitter contact data and aggregate counters without adequate authorisation/capability checks, so a low-privileged authenticated account can read data it should not see. Per the independent assessment the attack is network-reachable and requires only a valid subscriber-level account (PR:L) with no victim interaction (UI:N); the vendor-published vector instead characterises the attack as higher complexity (AC:H), but both agree the confidentiality impact is partial and the integrity/availability impact is none. Exploitation is a parameter-level request against an already-registered widget rather than a memory-safety or code-execution issue.

DescriptionCVE.org
The Otter Blocks - Gutenberg Blocks, Page Builder for Gutenberg Editor & FSE plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Sensitive Information Exposure in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.6 via the 'otter_form_widget_filter' parameter. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to extract the email addresses of the five most recent form submitters, their submission dates, and the site's total form submission count. The widget is registered whenever the themeisle_blocks_form_emails option is non-empty - the normal state after any Form block has been saved - meaning the exposure is active on any standard site using the plugin's form feature.
