Analysis
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: mt76: mt7996: Add NULL check in mt7996_thermal_init
devm_kasprintf() can return a NULL pointer on failure, but this returned value in mt7996_thermal_init() is not checked. Add NULL check in mt7996_thermal_init(), to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference error.
Technical Context
A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application attempts to use a pointer that has not been initialized or has been set to NULL.
Affected Products
Affected products: Linux Linux Kernel
Remediation
A vendor patch is available — apply it immediately. Add NULL checks before pointer dereference operations. Use static analysis to identify potential NULL pointer issues. Enable compiler warnings.
