Technical ContextAI · show details
This vulnerability is classified as Use After Free (CWE-416), which allows attackers to access freed memory to execute arbitrary code or crash the application. TensorFlow is an open source platform for machine learning. In affected versions the async implementation of CollectiveReduceV2 suffers from a memory leak and a use after free. This occurs due to the asynchronous computation and the fact that objects that have been std::move()d from are still accessed. The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.7.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.6.1, as this version is the only one that is also affected. Affected products include: Google Tensorflow.

Attack Technique
Use-after-free vulnerabilities occur when a program continues to access memory through a pointer after that memory has been deallocated.
Memory corruption occurs when a program writes data beyond the boundaries of allocated memory regions or accesses memory in unintended ways, violating the integrity of the process's address space.
Denial of Service attacks render applications or systems unavailable by overwhelming resources or triggering failure conditions.
