DescriptionNVD

A heap buffer overflow was found in the floppy disk emulator of QEMU up to 6.0.0 (including). It could occur in fdctrl_transfer_handler() in hw/block/fdc.c while processing DMA read data transfers from the floppy drive to the guest system. A privileged guest user could use this flaw to crash the QEMU process on the host resulting in DoS scenario, or potential information leakage from the host memory.

AnalysisAI

A heap buffer overflow was found in the floppy disk emulator of QEMU up to 6.0.0 (including). Rated medium severity (CVSS 6.1), this vulnerability is low attack complexity. Public exploit code available and no vendor patch available.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Buffer Overflow (CWE-119), which allows attackers to corrupt memory to execute arbitrary code or crash the application. Affected products include: Qemu, Debian Debian Linux, Redhat Enterprise Linux. Version information: up to 6.0.0.

RemediationAI

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Use memory-safe languages or bounds-checking. Enable ASLR, DEP/NX, stack canaries. Use safe string functions.
