MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Impact The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires only network reachability to the LogicalDOC UploadServlet /upload endpoint; per the description the servlet accepts multipart file-upload requests without a valid session, so no authentication, credentials, or user interaction are needed (consistent with PR:N/UI:N). The specific defect is that uploaded file parts are written to temporary directories that are not cleaned up and part count is unlimited, so the limiting factor is purely exposure: an instance must have /upload reachable by the attacker (e.g. internet-facing or network-adjacent). There is no non-default configuration requirement called out - the flaw affects LogicalDOC Community Edition through 9.3 - and impact is limited to availability (disk exhaustion), not data disclosure or code execution. Applying the vendor patch (commit 90b7ebea) removes the vulnerable handling. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but bounded availability risk, and the signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) confirms remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity exploitation with no user interaction, and the impact metrics (VC:N/VI:N/VA:H) correctly scope this as a pure availability (disk-exhaustion) issue with no confidentiality or integrity impact - matching CWE-770 (uncontrolled resource allocation). The 8.7 score is high precisely because exploitation is trivial and unauthenticated, not because of system compromise; defenders should read this as a denial-of-service priority, not a remote-code-execution one. No EPSS score was provided in the input, there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code is referenced, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. Net: real and easy to trigger against exposed instances, but the worst outcome is service/disk outage, so it should be prioritized for internet-facing LogicalDOC deployments while recognizing it does not grant attacker control of the host. The vendor patch availability raises urgency since a fix exists to close the window. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote attacker with no credentials sends repeated HTTP multipart POST requests to the /upload endpoint, each containing many file parts, which UploadServlet writes into temporary directories without a valid session and without cleanup. By looping these requests the attacker steadily fills the server disk until LogicalDOC and potentially co-located services fail. No public exploit code is referenced, but the attack requires only a standard HTTP client and the low complexity (AC:L) makes scripting it trivial. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026
Unauthenticated multipart uploads to the LogicalDOC Community Edition /upload endpoint (through version 9.3) let remote attackers write files into application temporary directories that are never cleaned up, exhausting server disk space and degrading or halting the document management service. The UploadServlet accepts file parts without a valid session and imposes no limit on the number of parts per request, so no credentials, user interaction, or non-default configuration are needed - only network reachability to the endpoint. Impact is confined to availability (integrity and confidentiality are unaffected, per the assessed CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H vector), no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and this CVE is not listed in CISA KEV.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor fix in the LogicalDOC Community repository: commit 90b7ebea5330feab94aff5ef0573362f3e52a1cc (upstream fix available via vendor commit; a released patched version number is not independently confirmed), with context in the vendor discussion at https://github.com/logicaldoc/community/discussions/119 and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/logicaldoc-community-edition-through-9.3-unauthenticated-upload-disk-exhaustion-via-uploadservlet. Until the patched build is deployed, restrict exposure of the /upload endpoint to trusted networks or authenticated reverse-proxy paths - the trade-off is that legitimate external upload clients lose direct access - and front the application with a WAF or reverse proxy that enforces a maximum request body size and a maximum multipart part count per request, rejecting oversized or high-part-count POSTs (this can break bulk-import workflows if limits are set too low). Additionally, schedule aggressive cleanup of the servlet container temp directory, in particular the upload subdirectories under FileUtil.tempDir()/upload, and cap the disk quota or filesystem size available to the LogicalDOC process so exhaustion degrades only that service rather than the host; rate-limiting unauthenticated POSTs to /upload adds further friction without a functional cost, whereas disabling the upload servlet entirely in web.xml is only viable for installations that do not use document upload at all.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The defect sits in LogicalDOC's UploadServlet (logicaldoc-webapp/src/main/java/com/logicaldoc/web/UploadServlet.java, around line 128), which handles document uploads by streaming multipart parts to disk once they exceed the 1 MB in-memory threshold (maxMemSize). Upload directories are derived from the caller's session - getUploadDir resolves a supply-chained sid, and when no valid sid is present it silently falls back to request.getSession(true) - so an unauthenticated request simply obtains a fresh HTTP session and a fresh directory under the servlet container's temp path (FileUtil.tempDir()/upload). Because the servlet neither authenticates the caller nor caps the number of file parts or the aggregate bytes per request, and because those temporary directories are not reaped, repeated POSTs accumulate indefinitely. This is CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling): the root cause is missing resource quotas and lifecycle cleanup rather than a memory-safety or injection flaw, which is why the assessed impact is availability-only. The vendor remediation commit 90b7ebea5330feab94aff5ef0573362f3e52a1cc reworks the session and upload-directory handling in this class.

DescriptionCVE.org
LogicalDOC Community Edition through 9.3 contains an unauthenticated file upload vulnerability in the UploadServlet that allows remote attackers to write files to disk without a session. Attackers can repeatedly send multipart requests with unlimited file parts to /upload, persisting files in uncleaned temporary directories and exhausting server disk space.
Executive ViewAI
An unauthenticated flaw in LogicalDOC Community Edition (version 9.3 and earlier) allows anyone with network access to the document management service to fill server storage with junk uploads until the system slows or stops responding. Because no credentials are required, any reachable instance is exposed, and an outage would directly interrupt document workflows for all users of the platform. Leadership should treat this as an availability risk to a business-critical system rather than a data-breach risk, since confidentiality and integrity are unaffected.
