| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated Obot user whose identity matches at least one configured vMCP (virtual MCP) profile selector (PR:L), and the deployment must expose a vMCP with a shared component connection whose profiles grant tool access but not the targeted prompts/resources. The flaw is triggered by requesting prompts, resources, or resource templates (not tools) of components not granted to the user, because pre-0.26.2 profile enforcement was applied only to tools. Limiting factors: exploitation is impossible without valid authentication and a vMCP configuration that segments component access via profiles; single-user or fully-trusting deployments where all users are meant to access all components see no practical impact. Affects Obot 0.26.0 up to (not including) 0.26.2. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity authorization bypass (CWE-863) rated CVSS 5.3, confirmed by the provided CVSS 4.0 vector CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N: network-reachable (AV:N), low attack complexity (AC:L), no special attack requirements (AT:N), but requiring low-level authentication (PR:L) and no user interaction (UI:N). Impact is limited to low confidentiality (VC:L) with no integrity or availability impact (VI:N/VA:N) and no scope change to subsequent systems (SC:N/SI:N/SA:N), consistent with an information-disclosure/over-reach flaw rather than code execution. No EPSS score was provided, the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, and no public exploit was referenced - exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The signals are internally consistent: a low-privilege authenticated user can read prompts, resources, and resource templates of components they were not granted, but cannot modify or destroy them. This is a genuine but bounded issue: real priority is elevated for multi-tenant Obot deployments where vMCP profiles are used to segment component access, and lower for single-user or trusted-tenant deployments. The source-code evidence (the patch adds profile-based component filtering to the OAuth consent/auth path and a regression test confirming disabled components are not probed) corroborates the description. Missing signals: EPSS probability and any POC are absent, so widespread automated exploitation cannot be assessed from the data. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Obot user whose identity matches any vMCP profile selector connects to a virtual MCP (vMCP) and, instead of only invoking the tools their profile grants, requests prompts, resources, or resource templates belonging to components they were never authorized for. Because authorization was enforced only on tools, the request is served through the vMCP owner's shared component connection, exposing data from ungranted components. No public exploit code was referenced, and exploitation requires a valid authenticated session (PR:L). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 07, 2026
Authorization bypass in Obot 0.26.0 through 0.26.1 lets an authenticated user who matches any configured vMCP (virtual MCP) profile selector read prompts, resources, and resource templates belonging to components that profile never granted them, because profile enforcement in those releases was applied only to tools. Attackers abuse the vMCP owner's shared component connection to reach the ungranted prompt/resource endpoints over the network, yielding limited confidentiality impact with no integrity or availability effect (CVSS 5.3, CWE-863, PR:L, so valid authentication and a profile-segmented vMCP deployment are prerequisites). There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV); vendor-released patch v0.26.2 closes the gap.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Obot to 0.26.2 or later, which is the vendor-released patch version containing commit 8d92701c2018a7b9dd6d692498fa5f41fdb912ea (github.com/obot-platform/obot/releases/tag/v0.26.2), and track the vendor advisory GHSA-xhpw-65qw-wj6m for confirmation of the fixed artifacts. Because the fix binds prompt/resource resolution to the requesting user's vMCP profile rather than the vMCP owner's shared connection, upgrading is the only complete remediation; pip-installed or container-pinned deployments must be rebuilt against the 0.26.2 image/tag rather than relying on configuration changes. If upgrading is not immediately possible, reduce exposure by removing or redesigning profiles that create mixed grants: either grant the profile access to all components it shares a connection with (AllowAllComponents), which eliminates the bypass but also eliminates the intended least-privilege segmentation, or detach ungranted components from the vMCP so no shared component connection spans granted and ungranted capability surfaces. Restricting network access to the vMCP/MCP gateway endpoints (blocking external reach to the OAuth/consent and prompt/resource APIs) limits remote exploitation but degrades legitimate client access and does not stop an authenticated internal user. There is no vendor-released patch for 0.26.0 or 0.26.1 specifically, so deploying a pre-0.26.2 build with compensating controls should be treated as a temporary, incomplete mitigation; note that no public exploit code is known at time of analysis, so prioritization can follow normal authenticated-user patch cycles, with fastest turnaround for multi-tenant vMCP deployments using profile-based segmentation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Obot is a platform for hosting and aggregating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and its virtual MCP (vMCP) feature composes multiple MCP components behind a single connection on behalf of an owner. Access segmentation is expressed through VMCPProfile objects, which use subject selectors (including wildcard selectors) and permission sets such as AllowedComponents or AllowAllComponents to decide which components a given user may reach. CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization) is the root cause class here: in the affected code paths (pkg/mcp/vmcp.go around lines 97 and 231) the profile filter was consulted when resolving tools but not when resolving prompts, resources, and resource templates, so those non-tool capability surfaces fell through to the full shared component connection owned by the vMCP. The upstream fix commit 8d92701c2018a7b9dd6d692498fa5f41fdb912ea replaces the blanket vmcpconfig.ComponentsForInstance call with a user-aware vmcpConsentComponents helper, introduces vmcpConfigurationCheckHash for consent hashing, and adds regression tests (notably TestVMCPAuthSkipsDisabledComponents) asserting that components not part of a user's profile are neither probed for OAuth nor authenticated through the connection. The assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) matches the vendor's CVSS 4.0 vector in scope and impact: network reachable, low complexity, requires low-privileged authentication, no user interaction, confidentiality-only impact.

DescriptionCVE.org
Obot 0.26.0 before 0.26.2 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated users matching any vMCP profile to reach prompts and resources of ungranted components. Because profiles were enforced only on tools, attackers can access prompts, resources, and resource templates through the vMCP owner's shared component connection.
