| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a YesWiki instance (version < 4.6.7) with the public ActivityPub actor inbox route reachable by the attacker (network-facing federation endpoint). The attacker crafts a Signature keyId containing an IPv6 transition-address representation (6to4, NAT64, or IPv4-compatible IPv6) that defeats validateKeyIdUrl()'s SSRF guard. Realistic impact additionally depends on a valuable internal target being reachable from the server - most notably a cloud metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254), loopback services, or internal hosts; instances with no such reachable internal services yield limited value. Limiting factors beyond CVSS: AC:H/AT:P mean the specific transition-address encoding and network conditions must line up, no authentication is needed (PR:N) but the payload crafting is non-trivial, and no user interaction is required. |
| Impact | This is a credible, above-average-priority SSRF but not an emergency. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N) scores 8.3 (High): network-reachable and unauthenticated (PR:N), which raises exposure, but AC:H and AT:P signal that successful exploitation is not trivial - the attacker must craft specific IPv6 transition-address payloads (6to4, NAT64, IPv4-compatible IPv6) and the environment must expose a reachable internal target (e.g. a cloud metadata endpoint). Impact is confidentiality-weighted (VC:H, VI:L, VA:N), consistent with reading cloud metadata / internal responses rather than full system compromise. Exploitation status: no public exploit identified at time of analysis (no KEV listing and no POC referenced; the VulnCheck and GHSA entries are advisories, not exploit code). No EPSS score was provided, so statistical exploitation likelihood cannot be compared against the KEV/POC signals - this is a data gap, not evidence of low risk. Net: a patched, real SSRF guard-bypass worth prompt remediation on internet-exposed YesWiki instances, especially those hosted in cloud environments with reachable metadata services, but the AC:H/AT:P friction and absence of confirmed exploitation place it below drop-everything severity. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker sends a crafted HTTP POST to a public YesWiki ActivityPub actor inbox route, placing an IPv6 transition-format address (6to4/NAT64/IPv4-compatible) in the Signature keyId so the server's validateKeyIdUrl() guard fails to recognize it as internal. The server then fetches the attacker-chosen internal URL - for example the cloud metadata service - and the response can expose credentials or internal service data. No authentication and no user interaction are required, though the attacker must know a valid internal target and correctly encode the bypass address (no POC is currently public). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 02, 2026
Server-side request forgery in YesWiki before 4.6.7 lets unauthenticated attackers reach internal services and cloud metadata endpoints by sending a crafted ActivityPub Signature keyId whose URL is expressed as an IPv6 transition address (6to4, NAT64, or IPv4-compatible IPv6), evading validateKeyIdUrl()'s SSRF guard. Exploitation requires the public federation actor-inbox route to be reachable by the attacker and involves non-trivial payload crafting, consistent with the independent assessment of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N; no public exploit identified at time of analysis. Real-world impact depends heavily on what the YesWiki server can reach internally - cloud metadata (169.254.169.254), loopback services, or internal hosts make it serious, while instances without reachable internal targets yield little value.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to YesWiki 4.6.7 or later, which hardens validateKeyIdUrl() against IPv6 transition and compatibility address encodings; apply the release referenced in the advisory at https://github.com/YesWiki/yeswiki/security/advisories/GHSA-85f2-5r47-2pwm. If immediate upgrade is not feasible, restrict exposure of the ActivityPub actor inbox route at the reverse proxy or WAF to known federated peers and reject keyId values whose host is not a public unicast address after full normalization - the trade-off is that blanket blocking of the inbox breaks federation with legitimate remote instances, so allow-listing is preferred over outright denial. Independently, enforce egress filtering on the YesWiki host so it cannot initiate connections to 169.254.169.254/32, 127.0.0.0/8, RFC1918 ranges, and the IPv6 equivalents (::1, fc00::/7, fe80::/10), and enable IMDSv2 with hop-limit 1 on AWS or the equivalent metadata protection on other clouds; egress rules can interfere with legitimate outbound integrations or plugin callbacks and should be scoped to the web user's process. Disabling ActivityPub federation entirely (if unused) removes the attack surface outright at the cost of Fediverse interoperability, and log/alert on outbound requests to link-local and loopback destinations to detect exploitation attempts.

Technical ContextAI · show details
YesWiki is a PHP-based wiki/collaboration platform that participates in the Fediverse via ActivityPub. To verify incoming HTTP Signatures on the public actor inbox route, it resolves and fetches the keyId URL, and validateKeyIdUrl() is the guard intended to prevent that fetch from hitting internal or non-public destinations - a classic CWE-918 server-side request forgery root cause. The guard's weakness is address-representation parsing: it fails to normalize IPv6 transition and compatibility forms, so a keyId host expressed as a 6to4 address (2002::/16, which encapsulates an IPv4 address), a NAT64 address (64:ff9b::/96, which the network translates back to IPv4), or an IPv4-compatible IPv6 address (::a.b.c.d) can resolve or translate to a loopback, link-local, or private IPv4 target while still passing the string-level checks. Because HTTP clients follow the resolved address, the attacker-controlled keyId becomes an SSRF primitive against anything routable from the server. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:yeswiki:yeswiki:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* with the EUVD range "yeswiki 0 <4.6.7" confirms all releases prior to 4.6.7 are exposed.

2DescriptionCVE.org
YesWiki before 4.6.7 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability in validateKeyIdUrl() that allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass the SSRF guard using 6to4, NAT64, or IPv4-compatible IPv6 addresses. Attackers can send a crafted Signature keyId to the public actor inbox route to reach cloud metadata, loopback services, or internal hosts.

Executive ViewAI
YesWiki, a collaboration platform used for knowledge sharing, contains a high-severity vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to reach internal services and cloud metadata endpoints when the public federation route is exposed. This could lead to unauthorized access to cloud credentials or internal systems, potentially resulting in data breaches or service disruption. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the risk is significant for internet-facing instances, and leadership should prioritize remediation.
