Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a valid token-based API account on the pretix instance (PR:L) because the affected surface is the authenticated file-upload API. The attacker must additionally know or correctly reference the randomly generated UUID of a target file (AC:H / AT:P), and that file only exists for approximately one day before deletion, sharply limiting the window. The defect is that API-uploaded files are not correctly bound to the uploader's authentication method and a single session token is shared across all token-based API users, which defeats the intended isolation but does not by itself grant broad access. Limiting factors: requires API credentials, requires knowledge of an ephemeral random UUID, and the exposure window is ~24 hours.

Impact

This is a genuinely low-priority, low-real-risk issue and all signals agree. The vendor-assigned CVSS 4.0 base score is only 2.3, reflecting high attack complexity (AC:H), a special attack requirement (AT:P), and required privileges (PR:L) - an attacker must already hold a valid API token AND must reference a randomly generated UUID that only exists for about one day, per the vendor description. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so exploitation probability is effectively negligible. The flaw is a broken protection mechanism (API-uploaded files not correctly bound to the uploader's authentication method, plus a single shared session token across all token-based API users) rather than a directly exploitable data-exposure primitive; the vendor explicitly states 'there is virtually no risk.' No signals conflict: this is a defense-in-depth regression, not an actively dangerous vulnerability.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A legitimate API token holder on a pretix instance leverages the fact that all token-based API users share the same session token and that uploaded-file auth binding is broken to attempt access to another API user's uploaded file. To succeed they would have to know or guess the target file's randomly generated UUID within the roughly one-day window before it expires. No public exploit code exists.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026

API-uploaded files in pretix are not correctly bound to the uploader's authentication method, and a single session token is shared across all token-based API users, undermining the intended isolation. This affects pretix versions prior to 2026.7.1. Exploitation requires a valid token-based API account and knowledge of the randomly generated UUID of a target file, which only exists for about a day, making real-world risk very low (CVSS 2.3). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and the issue is not known to be actively exploited.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to pretix 2026.7.1 or later, as documented in the vendor advisory at https://pretix.eu/about/en/blog/20260929-release-2026-7-1/. This release corrects the binding mechanism and ensures per-user session tokens. If immediate upgrade is not possible, mitigate by reducing the number of token-based API users, rotating API tokens frequently, and disabling API file upload functionality if it is not operationally required. Note that these workarounds do not fully eliminate the flaw and may disrupt legitimate API integrations; they are compensating controls only. The low severity (CVSS 2.3) and the ephemeral nature of uploaded files (random UUID, ~24-hour lifetime) make the practical risk minimal, but upgrading remains the definitive fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details

pretix is an open-source event ticketing platform that provides a token-based REST API for file uploads. The flaw lies in the access control mechanism that should associate each uploaded file with the specific authentication method used by the uploader. Instead, a single session token is reused for all API users authenticating via tokens, so the binding is ineffective. Uploaded files are referenced only by randomly generated UUIDs and are automatically deleted after approximately 24 hours. The root cause is an improper authorization binding (CWE not specified), which defeats defense-in-depth but does not grant direct unauthorized access without knowing the ephemeral UUID.

DescriptionCVE.org

The mechanism binding API-uploaded files to the uploader's authentication method is not working correctly and the same session token is used for all token-based API users. Since API-uploaded files are refered to by randomly generated UUIDs and only exist for a day, there is virtually no risk, but it renders the added protection mechanism useless.
