Sylius versions before 2.1.16 and 2.2.9 fail to validate payment amounts during cart recalculation, allowing unauthenticated attackers to modify order totals after gateway transaction initiation. Attackers can pay a small amount, enlarge the order after gateway capture, and have the system mark the inflated order as fully paid while the gateway captured only the original amount.

AnalysisAI
Insufficient verification of payment-claim state in the Sylius e-commerce platform (versions before 2.1.16 and 2.2.9) lets unauthenticated remote attackers inflate an order after a payment gateway has already captured the original, smaller amount, causing Sylius to mark the enlarged order as fully paid while the gateway only collected the lower figure. The flaw is reachable with CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N (integrity-only, high impact) and requires no login, but does demand a live storefront with a capture/authorize-capable payment gateway, an attacker-funded legitimate small transaction, and control over the timing between gateway capture and cart recalculation. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires a Sylius storefront (before 2.1.16 or 2.2.9) configured with a payment gateway that supports capture/authorize, and an active checkout in which the attacker can complete a real payment for a small amount and then modify the cart after the gateway has claimed that payment. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine, exploitable financial-fraud flaw rather than an inflated high-CVSS paper cut. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Sylius 2.1.16 or 2.2.9 (or later), which are the versions that contain the gateway-claim checks; the fix commit is 9e9aeaacbc97b1fc01d573e44d6679194527905d and the change landed via PR 19216, documented in advisory GHSA-vv4h-q2x8-74g4 (https://github.com/Sylius/Sylius/security/advisories/GHSA-vv4h-q2x8-74g4) and the v2.2.9 release notes. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all internet-facing Sylius deployments and identify any running versions prior to 2.1.16 or 2.2.9; if affected, enable detailed payment and order logging, require authentication for checkout where feasible, and configure payment gateway webhook or server-side validation to compare captured amounts against order totals. …
