Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated account with subscriber-level capability or above (PR:L) on a WordPress site running Redux Framework version 4.5.13 or earlier, specifically with the Redux users extension (user meta) functionality in use so the spinner field value is saved via user_meta_save() and later rendered by class-redux-spinner.php. Exploitation is limited by the authentication requirement (attacker needs at least a subscriber account, which favors sites with open registration) and by the need for another user - typically an admin or profile viewer - to load the page that renders the stored spinner value for the injected script to fire. Sites that disable open registration or have upgraded to 4.5.14+ are not exposed.

Impact

This is a mid-severity stored XSS (vendor CVSS 6.4, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) requiring authenticated access at subscriber level or above (PR:L), which is a meaningful barrier on well-managed sites but a low one where open/self-registration is enabled. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code referenced - status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - so the practical urgency is moderate rather than critical. The scope-change flag (S:C) and network vector are consistent with a stored payload injected via the spinner user_meta field that later executes in another user's/admin's browser session, but the impact caps at C:L/I:L because XSS here yields session/context abuse rather than direct server compromise. Signals are internally consistent (CVSS vector matches the description of authenticated subscriber injection); the main risk amplifier is the popularity of the framework, the main dampener is the authentication requirement plus the need for a victim to view the injected page.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker registers or obtains a subscriber-level account on a site running Redux Framework <=4.5.13, then submits a scalar spinner-field value containing a script payload, which bypasses the array-only sanitization in user_meta_save() and is stored in user meta. When an administrator or other user later views a page that renders that value via class-redux-spinner.php render() (unquoted, unescaped data-val attribute), the script executes in their browser. No public exploit code is referenced.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 19, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in the Redux Framework plugin for WordPress through version 4.5.13 lets an authenticated attacker with subscriber-level access or above persist arbitrary JavaScript into user meta via the spinner field, which is later emitted into an unquoted HTML attribute and executed in the browser of any user who views the affected page. Exploitation requires a low-privileged account (PR:L) plus a second user - typically an administrator or profile viewer - loading the injected content, so sites with open or self-registration enabled are at the greatest risk while sites that disable registration or have moved to 4.5.14+ are not exposed. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and the flaw is not confirmed as actively exploited (no CISA KEV listing).

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade Redux Framework to 4.5.14 or later, which is the version referenced in the plugin changelog changeset (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&new=3688279%40redux-framework%2Ftags%2F4.5.14&old=3582185%40redux-framework%2Ftags%2F4.5.13) and fixes the unescaped output in class-redux-spinner.php and the scalar sanitization gap in user_meta_save(); verify the site has fully applied the update since Redux is frequently bundled inside themes and other plugins. Where immediate upgrading is not possible, compensate by disabling open/self-registration and removing or restricting subscriber-level accounts so the PR:L prerequisite cannot be met, and by turning off the Redux users extension (user meta) functionality if it is not required, though the trade-off is loss of that user-meta editing capability. Administrators should also review existing user meta for suspicious 'data-val' spinner values and audit recent profile or settings changes, since the payload persists until removed. Technical ContextAI · show details

Redux Framework is a widely bundled PHP options/framework library for WordPress plugins and themes; the flaw is a classic CWE-79 improper neutralization of input during web page generation (stored XSS). Root cause is a sanitization gap in user_meta_save(): the routine only runs its sanitization logic against array-form values, so scalar values submitted for the spinner field bypass cleaning entirely and are written straight into user meta. The unsanitized value is subsequently read by the render() function at line 56 of redux-core/inc/fields/spinner/class-redux-spinner.php, where it is concatenated into an unquoted HTML attribute ('$data_string .= ' data-val=' . $this->value;'), allowing quote-breaking payloads to inject new attributes and script-bearing markup. The affected code path belongs to the Redux users extension (class-redux-extension-users.php, around line 1018) that handles user meta, so the vulnerable CPE is cpe:2.3:a:davidanderson:redux_framework:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* and both the trunk and 4.5.10 tag snapshots show the same unsafe render logic.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Redux Framework plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the spinner field in versions up to, and including, 4.5.13 This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. In the user_meta_save() function scalar values bypass the sanitization logic that only processes arrays, allowing the spinner field value to be stored in user meta without proper sanitization. Later, at line 56 of class-redux-spinner.php in the render() function, this value is rendered in an unquoted HTML attribute without escaping via '$data_string .= ' data-val=' . $this->value;'. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
