1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation

The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated account with subscriber-level access or above on the target WordPress site (per CVSS PR:L); it is most impactful on sites that permit open user self-registration. The attacker simply needs to load wp-admin/profile.php and read the inline redux_<opt_name> JavaScript block in the page source - no special Redux configuration is required, because the Users extension is loaded automatically for every Redux instance registered by any installed theme or plugin, so any site running Redux Framework ≤4.5.15 is affected regardless of whether the developer configured the Users extension. The practical limit on impact is twofold: a valid low-privilege account is needed (no anonymous exploitation), and the severity of what leaks depends on whether the site actually stores secrets - plaintext passwords, API keys, license keys, SMTP credentials - in its Redux options.

Impact

This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, not a drop-everything emergency, and the input signals are consistent in pointing to that. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 6.5) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity, authenticated flaw with no user interaction, high confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact - i.e. a pure information-disclosure bug. The vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency), which aligns with a credential-exposure flaw that still requires an attacker to already hold a valid account. Authentication requirement is confirmed from the vector: PR:L means an authenticated attacker with subscriber-level access or above, so this cannot be exploited by fully anonymous visitors. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no SSVC automatable/technical-impact fields were provided in the input, so exploitation-probability and automatability cannot be quantified here. No public exploit code is referenced - the GitHub link is the vendor fix pull request, not a working exploit - so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The main factor elevating real-world concern above the raw 6.5 is the nature of what leaks (plaintext passwords, API keys, license keys and SMTP credentials) combined with the low bar of subscriber access on sites that allow self-registration; the factor containing it is that an account is required and the data only leaks where a site has actually stored secrets in Redux options.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

On a WordPress site that allows user self-registration, an attacker registers a low-privileged subscriber account, logs in, and opens wp-admin/profile.php. They then read the page source and extract the inline redux_<opt_name> JavaScript block, which serializes the full Redux options payload - potentially including plaintext passwords, API keys, license keys and SMTP credentials - without any authorization check. No public exploit code is referenced, and given AV:N/AC:L the technique is trivial to reproduce manually once an account exists.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 31, 2026

Redux Framework through 4.5.15 leaks its complete stored options payload - plaintext password field values, API keys, license keys and SMTP credentials - to any subscriber-level user who simply loads wp-admin/profile.php and reads the inline redux_<opt_name> JavaScript block in the page source, because the Users extension localizes the full option set without verifying the user's panel capability (CWE-862). The Users extension is loaded automatically for every Redux instance registered by any installed theme or plugin, so every site running an affected copy is exposed whether or not the developer deliberately configured that extension. Exploitation requires an authenticated account at subscriber level or above and is therefore most damaging on sites that allow open self-registration and that store real secrets in Redux options; no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the vendor fixed the issue in 4.5.16.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Redux Framework code to 4.5.16 or later - the vendor-released patch, documented in the 4.5.16 changelog (release date October 09, 2026) and shipped via https://github.com/reduxframework/redux-framework/pull/4119, which restricts the localized option set on profile pages to the field IDs the current user is actually allowed to see and gates it behind can_access_panel(). Because Redux is typically embedded rather than installed directly, verify the actual library version in use (grep Redux_Core::$version) and update the bundling theme or plugin, or replace the bundled copy, rather than assuming the standalone plugin update covers it. Until the updated code is deployed, reduce the population that can reach the leak: close open self-registration and remove or downgrade existing subscriber accounts on sites whose Redux options hold passwords, API keys, license keys or SMTP credentials - the trade-off is loss of self-service signup and manual account administration, and it does nothing for existing subscribers. Treat the data as already disclosed if any low-privilege account existed on an affected site, and rotate the credentials, API keys, license keys and SMTP passwords that were stored in Redux options, since filtering the page output later does not un-leak secrets already served. Sites permitting open registration and storing third-party credentials should prioritise this within the current monthly patch cycle rather than deferring it.

Technical ContextAI · show details

This is a missing-authorization flaw (CWE-862) in the enqueue path of the Redux Framework WordPress plugin. The vulnerable code sits in redux-core/inc/extensions/users/class-redux-extension-users.php, whose constructor hooks the Users extension into every Redux instance and whose enqueue() routine emits localized panel data; the localization itself is assembled in redux-core/inc/classes/class-redux-enqueue.php (referenced at lines 582 and 735 of the 4.5.15 tag), where the full options and defaults arrays are written into an inline redux_<opt_name> JavaScript object on profile pages. Nothing in that path checked whether the current user holds the panel capability (page_permissions, defaulting to manage_options), so a Subscriber received the same serialized option set that an administrator would. The 4.5.16 fix (PR 4119) adds a redux/{opt_name}/localize filter handled by a new restrict_localize_options() method, backed by can_access_panel() and get_visible_profile_field_ids(), which trims the localized options and defaults down to only the field IDs actually rendered for that user when panel access is absent; the same release also guards against an empty profiles array and replaces raw output in the multi_media extension with esc_attr(), esc_html() and esc_url(), and switches a capability check to Redux_Helpers::current_user_can(). Note that the 4.5.16 changelog bundles a second, separate subscriber-level stored XSS via the multi_media field; CVE-2026-103997 covers only the information-disclosure/authorization-bypass half. Severity here is driven by confidentiality (C:H) rather than integrity or availability: the defect is a read-out of secrets, and the trigger is simply visiting the profile page on an affected install - no special Redux configuration, non-default setting or crafted request is described in the available sources.

DescriptionNVD

The Redux Framework plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 4.5.15. This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to view the entire Redux options payload - including plaintext password field values, API keys, license keys, and SMTP credentials - exposed in the inline redux_<opt_name> JavaScript block on wp-admin/profile.php. The Users extension is loaded automatically for every Redux instance registered by any installed theme or plugin, meaning any site running Redux Framework is affected regardless of whether the developer explicitly configured the Users extension.
