Remote unauthenticated network trigger with low complexity (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N); impact is resource-exhaustion only, so C:N/I:N and A:L rather than A:H.

Autobahn Python is a WebSocket and WAMP implementation for Python that supports Twisted and asyncio. Prior to 26.7.1, WebSocket endpoints that accept permessage-deflate and rely on maxMessagePayloadSize enforce that limit against the compressed frame length before inflation but do not recheck the decompressed message size before delivery. A remote unauthenticated client can send a valid compressed frame below the configured wire-size limit that expands beyond the application message limit, causing oversized data to be allocated, joined, validated, and passed to application callbacks. This can create resource-exhaustion pressure, but the advisory does not establish confidentiality or integrity impact. This issue is fixed in version 26.7.1.
AnalysisAI
Autobahn Python releases prior to 26.7.1 enforce the maxMessagePayloadSize receive limit against the compressed on-the-wire frame length rather than the inflated message size, so an unauthenticated remote client can send a small permessage-deflate frame that decompresses far past the configured application message cap and is nonetheless allocated, reassembled, validated, and handed to application callbacks. The impact is resource-exhaustion pressure scored at CVSS 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L, availability-only), and the advisory does not establish confidentiality or integrity impact despite the general 'Information Disclosure' tag; no public exploit identified at time of analysis. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitable only when the WebSocket endpoint negotiates permessage-compress (permessage-deflate, or the bzip2/snappy/brotli backends) with a connecting client - uncompressed traffic is unaffected. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but modest-severity availability issue, correctly scored at CVSS 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Autobahn Python 26.7.1 (release tag v26_7_1), which re-checks maxMessagePayloadSize against the uncompressed, reassembled message size at the inflation site and closes the connection with code 1009 before delivery, for both the whole-message and streaming receive APIs and all compression backends; the corresponding fix is PR #1916 / commit 77d323a30b09b1828ad8be2ce6344e056970e613, and full details are in advisory GHSA-hxp9-w8x3-p566. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
