Network-reachable and unauthenticated (PR:N), but AC:H because the attacker must control the OCSP response and rely on the OCSP module; integrity-only (I:H) since an invalid certificate is accepted.

5DescriptionCVE.org
A flaw was found in Netty's netty-handler-ssl-ocsp component. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by providing an Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) response that omits the optional nextUpdate field. This omission causes the OCSP validation to be silently skipped, leading to applications proceeding with an unvalidated certificate. This can result in a bypass of security controls where certificate validation is expected.
AnalysisAI
Certificate revocation validation performed by Netty's optional netty-handler-ssl-ocsp module can be silently skipped when the OCSP response omits the optional nextUpdate field, causing the application to proceed with a certificate that should have been rejected. The flaw is remote and requires no credentials or user interaction (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N, 5.9), but exploitation is conditional: the deployment must actually use the opt-in OCSP-stapling component, and the attacker must control or intercept the OCSP response seen by the client, typically through a man-in-the-middle position or by operating the TLS server whose certificate is being validated. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the target application uses Netty's optional netty-handler-ssl-ocsp component to perform OCSP-based certificate revocation validation. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but conditional security-control bypass, not a high-CVSS-but-trivial-risk inflation. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch or fixed version is identified in the available advisory data at time of analysis, so remediation should begin with compensating controls while tracking the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-93493 and the Bugzilla record at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2536897 for the patched Netty release. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
