A null pointer dereference in the bfd_putl64() function of GNU Binutils 2.47 (bfd/libbfd.c), reachable through the ld linker component, lets a local user crash the tool by feeding it a malformed ELF file. Publicly available exploit code exists (a GitHub write-up demonstrating a SEGV), and the upstream project was notified via a Sourceware bug report but has not responded, so no fixed release has been published. Severity is low (CVSS 4.0 base 1.9) because exploitation requires local access, yields no confidentiality impact, and is limited to integrity/availability loss of the linking process.

A weakness has been identified in GNU Binutils 2.47. Affected is the function bfd_putl64 of the file bfd/libbfd.c of the component ld. This manipulation causes null pointer dereference. The attack requires local access. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. The project was informed of the problem early through a bug report but has not responded yet.
