Network-reachable and unauthenticated from the attacker's registry, but requires the victim to already interact with a malicious registry (AC:H); leaked credentials belong to another system (S:C, C:H) with no integrity/availability impact.

Renovate is a dependency update automation tool. When listing tags/digests for a container image, Renovate follows pagination links supplied by the remote registry in the HTTP Link header and attaches the registry credentials to the follow-up request without verifying that the pagination URL has the same origin as the original registry. A malicious or compromised container registry can therefore specify a Link header pointing to an attacker-controlled host and receive the credentials Renovate uses for that registry. Exploitation requires that the target has container (Docker) dependencies and is already interacting with the malicious or compromised registry. This is fixed in Renovate 44.11.2 (npm and renovate/renovate images), Mend Renovate CE/EE 15.4.0 and the mend-renovate-enterprise-edition Helm chart 10.4.0; the same-origin check can be disabled with RENOVATE_X_DOCKER_PAGINATION_ALLOW_CROSS_ORIGIN.

AnalysisAI
Credential exfiltration in Renovate (renovatebot/renovate) before 44.11.2 lets a malicious or compromised container registry steal the registry credentials Renovate holds. When enumerating container image tags/digests, Renovate follows an HTTP Link header pagination URL and re-attaches the original registry's credentials without checking that the follow-up URL shares the same origin (CWE-601 open redirect), so a hostile registry can redirect the authenticated request to an attacker-controlled host and capture the secrets. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that (1) the target project has container/Docker dependencies that Renovate manages, (2) Renovate is configured with credentials for and is actively querying the registry, and (3) the attacker controls or has compromised that registry so it can inject a crafted HTTP Link (rel=next) header pointing to an attacker host. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/SC:H) yields 9.2, reflecting a high-confidentiality, network-reachable, unauthenticated-from-the-attacker's-side leak with a scope change (SC:H) since the leaked credentials belong to the legitimate registry rather than Renovate itself. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Renovate 44.11.2 (npm package and renovate/renovate image), Mend Renovate CE/EE 15.4.0, or mend-renovate-enterprise-edition Helm chart 10.4.0, which enforce a same-origin check on registry pagination URLs. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
