MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to hold at minimum a builder-level authenticated session in any workspace on the target Budibase instance - they do NOT need any role, membership, or invitation in the destination workspace. The attack targets POST /api/resources/duplicate with an arbitrary destination workspace ID in the request body; no special platform configuration or non-default feature flag is required in the victim workspace. The exfiltration step requires the attacker to subsequently trigger the injected automation, which they can do via standard API calls. Limiting factors: unauthenticated external attackers cannot exploit this directly, as PR:L (low privilege) authentication is required; the attacker must also know or enumerate a valid target workspace ID. No special victim-side configuration, user interaction, or elevated privilege is needed beyond having any builder account anywhere on the shared instance. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:H/SA:N, score 8.3) correctly captures low-privilege network exploitation with high integrity impact across both the vulnerable and subsequent systems, but materially understates risk by setting SC:N despite the CVE description explicitly describing webhook-driven data exfiltration from victim applications - subsequent-system confidentiality should be SC:H. EPSS data is absent, preventing probabilistic comparison. KEV status is not listed, meaning no confirmed active exploitation at time of analysis, and no public POC has been identified - these are distinct signals and should not be conflated. Despite the absence of a KEV listing, the attack barrier is low: any builder account on any workspace of the same platform instance serves as the entry point, with no special configuration required in the victim workspace. The cross-workspace blast radius and the exfiltration capability via a native platform feature (webhooks) elevate real-world priority well above what the SC:N vector suggests. This is a genuine high-priority finding, not a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk case, because the exploitation path is straightforward for any insider or compromised builder account. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker holding a builder account in any workspace on a Budibase instance - including a low-value or sandbox workspace - sends a crafted POST /api/resources/duplicate request with the target victim workspace ID embedded in the request body. The server injects the attacker's malicious automation, preconfigured with an outbound webhook pointing to attacker-controlled infrastructure, directly into the victim application without any role check. The attacker then triggers the automation, causing the victim application's data to be relayed externally. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the attack requires only standard Budibase API knowledge and a valid builder session token. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 28, 2026
Cross-application resource injection in Budibase Server before 3.41.3 allows any authenticated builder to plant tables, automations, queries, and screens into workspaces they have no authorized access to. The POST /api/resources/duplicate endpoint accepts an arbitrary destination workspace ID in the request body and performs no authorization check against the destination, enabling horizontal privilege escalation across workspace boundaries. Once malicious automations are injected, an attacker can trigger them to fire outbound webhooks relaying victim application data to attacker-controlled infrastructure, achieving data exfiltration. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and a vendor-released patch is available in version 3.41.3.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Budibase Server to version 3.41.3 or later, which resolves the missing authorization check in the POST /api/resources/duplicate endpoint. The vendor advisory at https://github.com/Budibase/budibase/security/advisories/GHSA-xqpq-288m-r5q7 should be consulted for release details. For organizations unable to upgrade immediately, restrict the builder role to explicitly trusted users, as this is the minimum privilege level required to exploit the vulnerability - reducing the builder population limits the attack surface. Implementing network-level egress filtering to block unauthorized outbound webhook destinations can curtail the exfiltration phase but does not prevent resource injection itself, which is a trade-off to acknowledge. Conducting an audit of all application workspaces for unexpected automations, tables, or screens can help detect whether exploitation has already occurred prior to patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Budibase is an open-source low-code platform (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:budibase:server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) for building internal tools, supporting tables, automations, queries, and screens as composable application resources. The vulnerable endpoint, POST /api/resources/duplicate, is designed to copy these resources across applications. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the server authenticates the requesting user but performs no ownership or role check against the destination workspace ID supplied by the caller. This is a classic insecure direct object reference pattern enabling horizontal privilege escalation - the caller controls an object reference (workspace ID) the server should independently validate but does not. Budibase's automation engine natively supports outbound webhook actions, which becomes the attacker's exfiltration primitive once a malicious automation is successfully injected into a victim workspace.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
Budibase versions before 3.41.3 contain a missing authorization vulnerability in the POST /api/resources/duplicate endpoint that allows authenticated builders to inject tables, automations, queries, and screens into any other application without holding any role in the destination workspace. Attackers can inject resources by specifying an arbitrary destination workspace ID in the request body, then trigger injected automations with outgoing webhooks to exfiltrate data from victim applications.
Executive ViewAI
Budibase Server before version 3.41.3 contains an authorization bypass in its resource duplication endpoint, allowing authenticated builders to inject malicious automations and webhooks into unauthorized workspaces and extract sensitive application data. This horizontal privilege escalation vulnerability affects any organization with multi-workspace Budibase implementations, creating data breach risk across workspace boundaries.
