| Exploitation Conditions | The target WordPress site must have the ManageWP Worker plugin installed, activated, and connected to a ManageWP account, as the vulnerable login mechanism is only exercised when remote login is initiated through the ManageWP dashboard. The attacker must have obtained at least one ManageWP-generated login link for the target site - this is the primary limiting condition captured by CVSS AC:H. Such links may be exposed through unencrypted email delivery, HTTP (non-TLS) transmission, server-side request logging, browser history, or referrer header leakage. Exploitation does not require any authentication by the attacker. Once a link is obtained, there is no user interaction required and no expiry or single-use enforcement to prevent replay. The constraint is therefore access to the link itself, not any technical complexity in using it. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 score of 8.1 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) reflects a high-severity vulnerability with full-triad impact but acknowledges that exploitation is not trivial: AC:H captures the prerequisite of intercepting or obtaining a valid login link. The EPSS score of 0.14% (4th percentile) is notably low, indicating that despite the high CVSS, mass automated exploitation is not currently observed - a meaningful signal that this is not yet being broadly targeted in scanning campaigns. The vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV, and no public proof-of-concept code has been identified at time of analysis. Real-world risk is therefore concentrated among sites where an attacker already has access to network traffic, server logs, browser history, or email containing ManageWP login links. For organisations using ManageWP to manage many WordPress properties - for example, a managed hosting provider or a digital agency - exposure is amplified because a single intercepted link from any managed site could yield admin access. The AC:H mitigator is genuine but not a strong shield, since login links may be transmitted over email or logged in proxy/WAF infrastructure. Prioritisation should be driven by whether ManageWP Worker is actively in use and whether login links traverse monitored or logged channels. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker monitoring network traffic or with access to email or proxy logs intercepts a ManageWP-generated login link intended for a site administrator. The attacker replays this link - even if it was already used - against the target WordPress site, obtaining a fully authenticated administrator session without any credentials. From there, the attacker can install backdoor plugins, exfiltrate user data, or pivot to the hosting environment. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the attack requires no special tooling beyond a web browser. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 23, 2026
Remote administrative account takeover in the ManageWP Worker WordPress plugin (versions before 4.9.37) is possible because login links are neither bound to a specific user account nor invalidated after first use, enabling replay attacks. Any attacker who intercepts or obtains a ManageWP-generated login link - whether it has been previously used or not - can replay it to establish an authenticated session as any WordPress user on the target site, including administrators. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and the vendor-released patch (4.9.37) is available.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 4.9.37. All WordPress site operators running ManageWP Worker should update to version 4.9.37 or later immediately via the WordPress plugin dashboard or the ManageWP central dashboard. The advisory is documented at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/e1e8c313-f7ea-4f3a-85c0-4f33dfe0710d/. If immediate patching is not possible, a viable compensating control is to disable the ManageWP Worker plugin entirely until patching is feasible - this eliminates the attack surface at the cost of losing remote management capability. Alternatively, network-level controls restricting access to the WordPress login endpoint from ManageWP's known IP ranges can reduce exposure, though this does not eliminate replay risk if links are accessible from within those ranges. Reviewing server and proxy logs for anomalous reuse of ManageWP login link patterns is recommended as a detection measure.

Technical ContextAI · show details
ManageWP Worker is a WordPress plugin that acts as a management agent, allowing remote site administration through the ManageWP dashboard. Its remote login mechanism generates signed links to authenticate dashboard operators into the underlying WordPress installation. The flaw (CWE-287: Improper Authentication) is twofold: the cryptographic signature on the link is not scoped to the specific WordPress user account being authenticated, and the link is not single-use (no nonce invalidation on consumption). This means the signature proves only that a link was issued by ManageWP, not that it authorises access for a particular user account, and any link - even a consumed one - remains valid indefinitely. Affected CPE covers ManageWP Worker 0 through 4.9.36 on WordPress installations. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by WPScan (contact@wpscan.com).

Lifecycle Timeline
4DescriptionCVE.org
The ManageWP Worker WordPress plugin before 4.9.37 does not bind the account being logged in to the signature which authorises the login, nor prevent an already used login link from being replayed, allowing attackers who obtain such a link to gain a session as any user on the site, including an administrator.
Executive ViewAI
ManageWP Worker plugin (affected versions before 4.9.37) allows attackers to replay authentication links to gain administrator access to WordPress sites without valid credentials, enabling complete site takeover and data compromise. Organizations running affected plugin versions face immediate risk of unauthorized administrative access and infrastructure control loss. Urgent patching is required.
