DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, an unauthenticated user could trick a user who holds the "admin" Splunk role into opening a crafted link to Monitoring Console. When that user opens the link, Splunk Enterprise runs attacker-controlled Search Processing Language (SPL) using the permissions of that user. The injected SPL could expose data available to that user or modify lookup data. The vulnerability is possible because Monitoring Console does not sufficiently validate data used to build dashboard searches. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the user by tricking them into opening the crafted link. The unauthenticated user should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will.

AnalysisAI

Reflected SPL injection in Splunk Enterprise's Monitoring Console allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute attacker-controlled Search Processing Language queries under the permissions of a targeted Splunk administrator. The attacker must phish an admin-role user into opening a specially crafted link (CVSS UI:R/AC:H), making opportunistic mass exploitation unlikely, but a successful attack can expose all data indexed and accessible to that admin or corrupt lookup tables. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that a Splunk user holding the built-in 'admin' role be socially engineered into opening a specially crafted URL pointing to the Monitoring Console - the attacker cannot trigger query execution without this user interaction (CVSS UI:R). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 6.4 score reflects meaningful real-world friction: AC:H and UI:R together encode the social engineering dependency - the attacker cannot exploit at will and must successfully phish a specific administrative user. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with no Splunk credentials identifies a Splunk administrator via LinkedIn or organizational directory, then crafts a malicious URL targeting the Monitoring Console with embedded SPL that exfiltrates search results to an attacker-controlled destination - for example, injecting a SPL query that reads sensitive indexed data and pipes it via makeresults or outbound lookup. The attacker delivers the link via a convincing phishing email (e.g., spoofed Splunk alert notification), and when the admin clicks it, Splunk executes the injected SPL under admin permissions, silently leaking indexed data or corrupting a threat intelligence lookup table. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to version 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 (matching your installed branch) per vendor advisory SVD-2026-0801 at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
