| Exploitation Conditions | The victim must be actively authenticated to MobSF (holding a valid session cookie) and must visit an attacker-controlled webpage during that session - this is the required user interaction (UI:R). The attacker needs no credentials or privileges on MobSF itself (PR:N); the victim's session provides all necessary authorization. For /delete_scan/ and /download_scan/, the attacker must know or obtain a valid scan MD5 hash; for /change_password/, /create_user/, and /delete_user/, only the MobSF instance URL is required. The attack depends on SameSite=Lax session cookie behavior, which permits form-based top-level navigation POST submissions to carry the cookie - this is the critical enabling factor. MobSF must be network-reachable from the webpage hosting the exploit (e.g., on the same local network or exposed to the internet). Exploitation is limited by: required user interaction (analyst must actively visit the malicious page), typical localhost/private-network deployment of MobSF, and the need to know a scan MD5 for hash-dependent endpoints. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N scores 6.5, reflecting low attack complexity and high integrity impact, offset by required user interaction. The integrity impact is accurate: unauthenticated attackers can trigger password resets, account creation/deletion, and scan management on behalf of a logged-in victim. Publicly available exploit code exists (confirmed in GHSA-3p54-567p-2wpr with a working curl proof-of-concept demonstrating live scan deletion); this is not active CISA KEV exploitation. EPSS data was not provided. Real-world risk is bounded by MobSF's typical deployment pattern - it generally runs on localhost or private lab networks, which limits the attacker's ability to reach the target endpoint. However, teams exposing MobSF on internal or public networks are at meaningful risk. The scan deletion and user management endpoints represent the highest-impact targets. One data signal discrepancy: the CVSS A:N metric does not account for permanent data destruction via /delete_scan/, which has a de facto availability impact on scan data. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who knows or guesses a victim's MobSF instance URL hosts a webpage containing a hidden HTML form with JavaScript auto-submission targeting http://target-mobsf:8000/delete_scan/ with a known scan MD5 hash. When a security analyst authenticated to MobSF visits this page - for example, via a phishing link or a compromised web asset - the browser automatically submits the form, carrying the analyst's session cookie due to SameSite=Lax semantics, and MobSF deletes the scan without any CSRF validation. A confirmed working proof-of-concept for this exact scenario is included in GHSA-3p54-567p-2wpr. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 18, 2026
Cross-site request forgery in MobSF prior to 4.5.1 enables a remote attacker to perform destructive authenticated actions - including scan deletion, password changes, user creation/deletion, and file upload/download - against a logged-in victim's instance. The root cause is a Django migration regression: CsrfViewMiddleware was left in the deprecated MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES setting (ignored since Django 2.0) and never added to the active MIDDLEWARE tuple, leaving all POST endpoints unprotected. A working proof-of-concept is confirmed by the GHSA advisory reporter, who demonstrated complete scan deletion via a plain curl command using only a session cookie - no CSRF token required.
RemediationAI
Upgrade MobSF to version 4.5.1, which resolves the issue by adding django.middleware.csrf.CsrfViewMiddleware to the active MIDDLEWARE tuple in settings.py. The fix is implemented in commit 62563ca429a75b3e5d47a13b958e1d2e7d5e2bbf (PR: https://github.com/MobSF/Mobile-Security-Framework-MobSF/pull/2627) and released at https://github.com/MobSF/Mobile-Security-Framework-MobSF/releases/tag/v4.5.1. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, binding the MobSF server to localhost only (127.0.0.1:8000) is the most effective compensating control, as it prevents attacker-controlled external webpages from reaching the POST endpoints - though this does not fully protect against attacks launched from a compromised machine on the same host. Restricting MobSF access via network firewall to trusted analyst workstations reduces exposure but does not eliminate the risk if analysts browse the web while authenticated. There is no known workaround that preserves full MobSF network accessibility while blocking the CSRF attack.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MobSF is a Python-based mobile application security testing platform built on Django. Django's CSRF protection requires django.middleware.csrf.CsrfViewMiddleware to be present in the MIDDLEWARE tuple (the active middleware stack). Since Django 2.0, the legacy MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES setting is entirely ignored. In MobSF's settings.py (lines 206-212), the MIDDLEWARE tuple includes session, auth, and message middleware but omits CsrfViewMiddleware, meaning no CSRF token validation occurs on any POST endpoint. Compounding this, the session cookie's SameSite=Lax attribute does not block form-based top-level navigation POST requests - precisely the mechanism used in classic CSRF attacks. Affected product CPE: cpe:2.3:a:mobsf:mobile-security-framework-mobsf:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*. CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery) is the root cause class.

1DescriptionCVE.org
MobSF is a mobile application security testing tool used. Prior to 4.5.1, mobsf/MobSF/settings.py places django.middleware.csrf.CsrfViewMiddleware only in the deprecated MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES setting and omits it from the active MIDDLEWARE tuple, allowing a remote attacker to make a logged-in victim submit cross-site POST requests to authenticated web endpoints including /delete_scan/, /upload/, /download_scan/, /change_password/, /create_user/, and /delete_user/. This can delete scans, upload or download applications, change passwords, or manage users with the victim account permissions. This issue is fixed in version 4.5.1.
