CRITICAL 9.3

DescriptionCVE.org

SiYuan before v3.7.4 contains a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the file upload validation flow that fails to escape filenames before inserting them into HTML via insertAdjacentHTML. Attackers can craft a malicious filename containing script payloads that execute with full OS command access when a user drags, drops, or pastes the file into the editor.

AnalysisAI

Cross-site scripting escalating to full remote code execution in SiYuan, an Electron-based personal knowledge-management and note-taking application, affects all releases before v3.7.4. The file-upload validation flow inserts unescaped filenames into the DOM via insertAdjacentHTML, so a filename carrying a script payload runs in the privileged renderer and reaches OS command execution when a victim drags, drops, or pastes the file into the editor. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the victim to be running SiYuan before v3.7.4 and to actively drag, drop, or paste an attacker-supplied file into the editor - the malicious payload lives in the file's NAME, which must pass through the file-upload validation flow that calls insertAdjacentHTML without escaping. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor CVSS 4.0 score is 9.3 (critical), vector AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H with a scope change to subsequent systems (SC:H/SI:H/SA:H), reflecting the XSS-to-RCE impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker sends the victim a file whose filename contains an HTML/script payload (via a shared drive, chat attachment, or synced folder) and social-engineers them into importing it. When the victim drags, drops, or pastes the file into the SiYuan editor, the unescaped filename is injected via insertAdjacentHTML, the script executes in the privileged Electron renderer, and it runs OS commands as the user. …
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade SiYuan to v3.7.4 or later, which escapes filenames before DOM insertion; this is the primary and recommended fix, per vendor advisory GHSA-jf56-jrhq-j2qp (https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-jf56-jrhq-j2qp). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
