Exploitation Conditions

The target SiYuan instance must have the publish surface enabled and network-reachable by the attacker; exploitation requires establishing a WebSocket connection to that publish broadcast endpoint. No authentication, credentials, or user interaction are needed (PR:N/UI:N), and the attacker can passively receive events rather than actively triggering them. Exploitation is limited to instances running a version before v3.7.4 that actually expose the publish feature - a self-hosted deployment that never enables publishing, or one whose publish port is firewalled to trusted networks, is not reachable via this path. The disclosed data is bounded to content flowing through broadcast sessions during the attacker's connection window (real-time edits), including protected and forbidden documents.

Impact

The signals are largely consistent and point to real, easily realizable confidentiality risk: the CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation with no user interaction, and VC:H/SC:H reflects high confidentiality impact extending beyond the immediately targeted data. Integrity and availability are untouched (VI/VA:N), so this is a pure disclosure bug, not RCE or DoS. EPSS was not provided and the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of active exploitation, and no POC was flagged in the source data - meaning exposure is currently theoretical-but-trivial rather than confirmed in-the-wild. The main limiter is deployment: only instances that actually expose the publish surface to untrusted networks are reachable, so a purely local or LAN-only self-host is far less exposed than an internet-facing publish endpoint, and any operator running an exposed publish surface should treat this as urgent given how little skill exploitation requires. Overall this is a genuine priority for exposed deployments and low-consequence for closed ones - verify your publish exposure before deprioritizing.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker locates an internet-facing SiYuan publish surface and opens a WebSocket connection to its broadcast endpoint without supplying any credentials. As legitimate users edit their workspace, the attacker passively receives the live stream of content-change events - including from password-protected and forbidden documents - silently exfiltrating private notes with no interaction from the victim. The low attack complexity (AC:L) and lack of authentication (PR:N) make this reliably repeatable; no POC has been published, but the technique requires only a standard WebSocket client.

Alert me

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 14, 2026

Unauthorized disclosure of private content in SiYuan (siyuan-note) versions before v3.7.4 lets anonymous, unauthenticated clients subscribe to the WebSocket broadcast channel on the publish surface and receive real-time editing events for every document, including password-protected and explicitly forbidden ones. Reported by VulnCheck and documented in the vendor's GHSA advisory, the flaw is a missing authorization (CWE-862) check on broadcast sessions rather than a memory-corruption bug. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the trivial network-only access path and 9.2 CVSS 4.0 score make this a high-priority confidentiality issue for any exposed publish deployment.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: v3.7.4 - upgrade all SiYuan instances to v3.7.4 or later as the primary fix, per GHSA-mw8r-mw84-88v2 (https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-mw8r-mw84-88v2). If immediate upgrade is not possible, disable the publish surface or take it offline until patched, which removes the vulnerable broadcast path entirely at the cost of losing published-content access for legitimate readers. As a network compensating control, restrict access to the publish endpoint and its WebSocket port to trusted networks or place it behind an authenticating reverse proxy or VPN, accepting that this blocks anonymous public consumption the feature is designed for. Avoid relying on document-level password/forbidden flags as a boundary, since this vulnerability is precisely the failure of those flags to gate broadcast events.

Technical ContextAI · show details

SiYuan is a self-hostable, block-based personal knowledge-management and note-taking application. It exposes a 'publish' surface intended to serve a curated, read-only subset of a workspace to visitors, and it uses WebSocket broadcast sessions to push live editing events to connected clients. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the WebSocket broadcast path does not enforce the same publish-boundary access controls that gate the rendered publish views, so document-change events are emitted to every connected socket regardless of the reader's authorization state or the document's protection flags. The affected component is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:siyuan-note:siyuan (all versions prior to the fix), and the exposed data includes content the publishing model is explicitly designed to withhold (password-protected and forbidden documents).

DescriptionCVE.org

SiYuan versions before v3.7.4 contain a publish-boundary bypass vulnerability in WebSocket broadcast sessions that allows anonymous readers to receive unfiltered edits. Attackers can establish a WebSocket connection to the publish surface and passively receive real-time content events including password-protected and forbidden documents without authentication.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

SiYuan document collaboration platform versions before v3.7.4 contain a critical flaw allowing unauthenticated network attackers to view all documents in real-time, including password-protected content. Organizations with exposed SiYuan publish instances risk unauthorized disclosure of sensitive business information without any technical barriers.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

Until vendor patch is released: restrict network access to the SiYuan publish WebSocket endpoint via firewall rules, require VPN or authentication at the network boundary, and disable the publish feature if not operationally required. Monitor vendor advisory GHSA for patch availability; no interim code mitigations can close this authorization flaw.
