DescriptionCVE.org

AIOHTTP is an asynchronous HTTP client/server framework for asyncio and Python. Prior to 3.14.3, an out-of-bounds heap read could occur in the C response parser while building an error message for a malformed response. An attacker controlled server, or possibly an accidental response, could trigger a DoS in the client. The vulnerable path was error message construction in aiohttp/_http_parser.pyx, where an llhttp error-position pointer was used to build a snippet for malformed chunked responses and malformed request or response bytes at the buffer end. This issue is fixed in version 3.14.3.

AnalysisAI

Out-of-bounds heap read in aiohttp's C HTTP response parser (versions ≤ 3.14.2) allows an attacker-controlled server to crash the client application via a malformed chunked HTTP response, causing denial of service. The flaw exists only when the compiled C extension is active - the default installation mode - and is triggered during error-message construction in aiohttp/_http_parser.pyx when the llhttp error-position pointer is materialized as a raw pointer rather than a bounded offset into the Python bytes buffer. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The C extension parser must be compiled and active, which is the default for standard pip installations of aiohttp; applications running with AIOHTTP_NO_EXTENSIONS=1 are fully immune. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N) accurately captures the threat model: this is a network-reachable, low-complexity availability-only impact, but UI:P (passive user interaction) is the critical constraint - the aiohttp client must initiate a connection to the attacker-controlled server. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker operates a malicious HTTP server and lures or redirects an aiohttp client application (≤ 3.14.2, C extensions enabled) into making an HTTP request to it. The server returns a malformed chunked HTTP response - for example, a chunk size line ending with \r followed by a non-LF byte - which triggers llhttp's error handler; the C parser then reads past the end of the input buffer while constructing the diagnostic error message, crashing the client process. …
Remediation Upgrade aiohttp to version 3.14.3 or later via pip install --upgrade aiohttp; the patched release is confirmed at https://github.com/aio-libs/aiohttp/releases/tag/v3.14.3. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, conduct inventory of all aiohttp installations (versions ≤3.14.2) across development, staging, and production environments, prioritizing customer-facing and critical services. …
