Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires only network reachability to the Yarbo cloud MQTT broker and possession of the hard-coded credentials, which any attacker can recover by decompiling the publicly distributed Yarbo Android or iOS application binary - no user authentication, user interaction, or non-default configuration is needed. Targeting a specific robot additionally requires knowledge of that robot's serial number, which is used as the topic key for command publishing; fleet-wide telemetry subscription, however, requires no serial number because the credentials permit wildcard subscription. Limiting factors are minimal: the attack is bounded only by the broker remaining online with the current credentials valid and by serial-number knowledge for per-device command injection.

Impact

All signals point to a genuinely high-priority, fleet-wide exposure rather than an inflated CVSS score. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) accurately reflects remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated access yielding high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on the robot fleet, and the SSVC-style technical impact is total (full command and telemetry control). EPSS is not provided and the issue is not on the CISA KEV list, so there is no confirmed active exploitation, but POC-quality extraction is essentially trivial - any researcher with apktool/jadx can recover the credentials - so absence of public exploit code should not be read as low risk. The condition that an attacker must know a target robot's serial number lightly limits per-device targeting but does not limit mass subscription to all telemetry, and serial numbers are often weakly random or observable. Subsequent-system impact is rated N in the vector, which is reasonable since compromise is confined to Yarbo's fleet rather than crossing into customer networks, but physical safety risk from sending commands to outdoor robotic mowers is a real-world consideration the score does not capture.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker downloads the Yarbo Android APK from a public mirror, decompiles it with jadx in minutes, and extracts the hard-coded MQTT username and password. Using a standard MQTT client such as mosquitto_sub, they connect to the Yarbo cloud broker and subscribe to a wildcard topic, harvesting real-time telemetry (location, status, owner identifiers) for the entire global fleet, then publish crafted command messages to a specific robot's command topic using its serial number to start, stop, or steer the device. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the extraction workflow is well within reach of an entry-level reverse engineer.

AnalysisAIv1 – Jun 12, 2026

Hard-coded MQTT broker credentials in Yarbo Android and iOS applications allow remote unauthenticated attackers to subscribe to and publish on the cloud MQTT brokers serving the entire global Yarbo robot fleet. Because the credentials are identical across all users and devices and trivially extractable via APK decompilation, anyone knowing a target robot's serial number can read its telemetry or send arbitrary commands. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the CVSS 4.0 base score of 9.3 and CISA ICS advisory reflect the systemic, fleet-wide nature of the exposure.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis from the provided references; remediation requires Yarbo to rotate the shared MQTT credentials, migrate to per-device or per-user credentials (for example, X.509 client certificates or short-lived JWTs provisioned per robot), and tighten broker ACLs so each client can only subscribe and publish to its own topic namespace rather than fleet-wide wildcards. Operators should monitor https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/ics-advisories/icsa-26-162-01 for an updated mobile app version and install it once released. Until a fix ships, compensating controls are limited because the broker is vendor-operated, but Yarbo can server-side revoke the leaked credentials and force re-authentication (side effect: existing app installs will lose connectivity until updated), and customers should treat robot serial numbers as sensitive, avoid publishing them in photos or marketplace listings, and where possible power down robots when unattended to limit availability impact from rogue commands.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected components are the Yarbo Android/iOS mobile applications (cpe:2.3:a:yarbo:yarbo_android/ios_mobile_application) and the backing Yarbo cloud MQTT infrastructure (cpe:2.3:a:yarbo:yarbo_cloud_mqtt_infrastructure). MQTT is a lightweight publish/subscribe protocol commonly used for IoT telemetry and command channels, where clients authenticate to a broker and are typically authorized per-topic. The root cause is CWE-798 (Use of Hard-coded Credentials): a single shared username/password is compiled into the mobile binary and used by every installation, so reverse engineering one APK yields full broker access. Compounding the issue, the broker's ACLs allow wildcard subscription across all robot telemetry topics and publishing to any robot's command topic keyed only by serial number, meaning the credential is also over-privileged.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Yarbo Android and iOS applications contain hard-coded MQTT broker credentials that are identical for all users and all devices. These credentials are embedded in the application binary and are readily extractable via APK decompilation. The credentials provide access to cloud MQTT brokers carrying real-time telemetry for the entire global Yarbo robot fleet. They allow both wildcard subscription to all robot telemetry topics and publishing to any robot's command topic using only the robot's serial number.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Yarbo's Android and iOS applications embed hard-coded MQTT credentials, enabling remote, unauthenticated attackers to access the entire global robot fleet and read sensor telemetry or inject arbitrary commands using only a robot's serial number. Every Yarbo customer is exposed; leadership must immediately notify users and coordinate with Yarbo to isolate the fleet until a patched application version is available.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Network segmentation-isolate Yarbo robot MQTT traffic to restricted VLANs with access control lists; (2) Behavioral detection-alert on anomalous MQTT command patterns or telemetry exfiltration; (3) User communication-advise customers to uninstall Yarbo apps until security patches are released; (4) Backend rotation-request vendor to rotate or invalidate hard-coded credentials if backend infrastructure permits.
