Ecosystem-wide dependent count for version 3.13.4.

DescriptionGitHub Advisory

AIOHTTP is an asynchronous HTTP client/server framework for asyncio and Python. Prior to version 3.13.4, a response with an excessive number of multipart headers may be allowed to use more memory than intended, potentially allowing a DoS vulnerability. This issue has been patched in version 3.13.4.

AnalysisAI

Memory exhaustion vulnerability in AIOHTTP prior to version 3.13.4 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to trigger denial of service via specially crafted HTTP responses containing excessive multipart headers. The vulnerability exploits insufficient memory limits during multipart header parsing, causing the server or client to consume more memory than intended. CVSS 6.6 (medium-high availability impact) with no public exploit code identified at time of analysis.

Technical ContextAI

AIOHTTP is an asyncio-based HTTP framework for Python that handles both client and server operations. The vulnerability resides in the multipart header parsing logic (CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling), where the framework fails to enforce adequate memory constraints when processing HTTP multipart responses. An attacker can construct a response with an abnormally high number of multipart headers, causing unbounded memory allocation during parsing. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:aio-libs:aiohttp:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates all versions prior to the patch are affected. This is a resource exhaustion vulnerability rather than code execution or authentication bypass, making it a classic denial-of-service attack vector against applications using vulnerable AIOHTTP versions.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade AIOHTTP to version 3.13.4 or later. The patch is available at https://github.com/aio-libs/aiohttp/releases/tag/v3.13.4. For Python package management, use pip install --upgrade aiohttp>=3.13.4 to obtain the fixed version. The upstream fix details are available in the commit at https://github.com/aio-libs/aiohttp/commit/8a74257b3804c9aac0bf644af93070f68f6c5a6f. Until patching is possible, applications should implement external rate limiting or request size restrictions at the network layer (e.g., reverse proxy configuration) to reject HTTP requests with abnormally high header counts, though this is less reliable than the vendor patch.
