Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a ToolJet instance on an affected version (greater than 3.20.1-lts and before 3.20.242-lts) that has instance-level signup DISABLED in instance settings and has a default workspace present - these are the exact preconditions in the vendor PoC. The flaw is only meaningful under this disabled-signup configuration; instances that leave signup enabled are behaving as intended and are not affected by this bypass. No authentication, user interaction, or special network position is needed (PR:N/UI:N/AV:N). The realistic impact is limited by the permissions granted to a newly created ordinary member of the default workspace, so risk scales with how much that workspace exposes to default members.

Impact

The input CVSS 4.0 score is 6.9 (medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N and vulnerable-system impact VC:L/VI:L/VA:N, i.e. network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation yielding limited confidentiality and integrity impact. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' - a real but non-emergency priority, consistent with the medium CVSS and the fact that impact is bounded to whatever an ordinary member of the default workspace can access. No EPSS probability was provided in the input and the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, so there is no signal of active or widespread exploitation; these signals are MISSING rather than low. A step-by-step proof-of-concept is published in the ToolJet GHSA advisory, but it is an advisory reference, not verified working exploit code. The key limiting factor that tempers the CVSS vector is that this bug is only exploitable on instances where an administrator has explicitly DISABLED instance-level signup - on default/open-signup instances the behaviour is intended, so the real-world exposed population is the subset of ToolJet operators who deliberately locked signup down and are on an affected version.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An administrator disables instance-level signup to keep a self-hosted ToolJet instance closed, but the SignupDisableGuard treats the setting string 'false' as truthy and still permits signup. An unauthenticated attacker sends a POST to /api/signup with just an email and password and no organizationId; the server creates the account, auto-joins it to the default workspace, and returns a valid session token. A proof-of-concept with exact request steps exists in the GHSA advisory, but it is an advisory reference and is not verified as working exploit code.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

ToolJet versions from 3.20.2-lts before 3.20.242-lts can be configured with instance-level signup disabled, yet an unauthenticated remote attacker can still create an account by POSTing to /api/signup without an organizationId, because SignupDisableGuard treats the string 'false' as truthy. Successful requests join the default workspace and return a valid session, so access is limited to resources available to an ordinary member of that workspace; a proof-of-concept procedure is documented in the vendor advisory. The vendor-released fix is 3.20.242-lts.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: 3.20.242-lts. Upgrade ToolJet to 3.20.242-lts to fix the SignupDisableGuard bypass; the vendor advisory is https://github.com/ToolJet/ToolJet/security/advisories/GHSA-gwr6-mv6v-23f2 and the VulnCheck advisory is https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/tooljet-3.20.2-lts-before-3.20.242-lts-signup-bypass-via-signupdisableguard. The provided sources do not document a workaround, so remediation should prioritize applying the fixed release; because exploitation requires instance-level signup to be disabled and a default workspace to exist, operators should verify whether those conditions are present while planning the upgrade.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The issue is an incorrect authorization flaw (CWE-863) in ToolJet's SignupDisableGuard. The guard obtains the signup setting through getSettings(), which returns the raw database value as a string; when signup is disabled the value is 'false', and because any non-empty string is truthy in JavaScript, a check equivalent to 'return request.body.organizationId || enableSignUp;' authorizes signup requests that omit organizationId. The login-page UI respects the toggle, but the server-side API does not, so an unauthenticated POST to /api/signup creates a user, adds it to the default workspace, and returns a valid session token. The supplied CVSS 4.0 score is 6.9 (medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N and low confidentiality and integrity impact; the independent assessment likewise scores AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N with C:L/I:L/A:N, so impact depends on what the default workspace exposes to newly created ordinary members.

DescriptionCVE.org

ToolJet from 3.20.2-lts before 3.20.242-lts contains an authorization bypass in SignupDisableGuard, which treats the string signup setting 'false' as truthy, so instance-level signup restrictions are not enforced. Unauthenticated attackers can send POST requests to /api/signup without an organizationId to create an account, join the default workspace, and receive a valid session.
