MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Defense Evasion The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the target OpenPanel project has an existing shareOverview row - i.e., an overview share was created and is either private (public:false, including a share toggled off, since the share router has no delete path) OR password-protected (public:true with a password set). Against such projects an attacker needs no session, no authentication, and no user interaction: an anonymous POST to the event.bots tRPC procedure with a known/guessed projectId returns bot-event rows (name, type, path, created_at). LIMITING FACTORS: projects that never created an overview share are not exposed, and the public:true-with-no-password case is excluded because it is public by design; impact is confined to read-only disclosure of bot-event metadata (confidentiality only), with no write, integrity, or availability effect, and the attacker must know or enumerate a valid projectId. |
| Impact | Signals converge on a moderate, confidentiality-only issue rather than a top-tier emergency. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes a remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity request against a network-facing tRPC endpoint, but impact is limited to VC:L with no integrity or availability effect - consistent with the advisory's 'Confidentiality only' finding. EPSS is low (0.21%, 11th percentile) and the vulnerability is NOT in CISA KEV; SSVC records Exploitation: none, which matches 'no confirmed active exploitation.' Working against urgency reduction, SSVC Automatable: yes and the vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month,' and a concrete PoC request appears in the GHSA advisory, so this is a near-term patch priority rather than something to defer indefinitely - but not an act_now/emergency item. One key data conflict must be flagged: the input metadata says 'Patch: Available from vendor' and EUVD implies a fix at 3.0.0, yet the GitHub advisory source evidence states the fix is 'unreleased' / 'not yet patched' on HEAD 61a9245 - verify fixed-version availability with the vendor before relying on a patch. Net: a real but bounded information-disclosure flaw worth remediating this month, not a widespread-exploitation crisis. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A project owner creates an overview share and sets it private (public:false) or password-protected, assuming the bot-event data stays gated. An anonymous attacker, with no session cookie, sends a crafted POST to /trpc/event.bots with the target's projectId and receives bot-event names, types, and paths back, because the endpoint only checks that a shareOverview row exists rather than enforcing public/password. A public PoC reference exists in the GHSA advisory; it is not verified as working exploit code, and SSVC records no confirmed exploitation. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Unauthenticated bot-event disclosure in OpenPanel (all versions before 3.0.0) lets anyone POST to the event.bots tRPC procedure with only a projectId and receive bot-event rows - name, type, path and created_at - from projects whose overview share is private or password-protected. The procedure's anonymous branch only checks that a shareOverview row exists and never reads the share's public flag or password, so a share that was created and later toggled off (the share router has no delete path, so the row persists) still leaks, and the exposed path field can reveal internal routes. Impact is confidentiality-only against projects that have such a share row; EPSS is low at 0.21% (11th percentile), SSVC records exploitation as none, a public PoC request is documented in the advisory but is not verified as working exploit code, and the vendor has released a fix in 3.0.0.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to OpenPanel 3.0.0, the first version outside the affected 0 <3.0.0 range (vendor-released patch: 3.0.0); the advisory's documented fix makes the anonymous event.bots branch reuse the share.overview authorization so that share.public is required and the password cookie (lockedShare) is enforced before any bot events are returned. Because the share router has no delete path, toggling an overview share private or off does not remove the shareOverview row and therefore is not an effective workaround - the authorization check itself must be fixed. If upgrading cannot be done immediately, the only deployment-level control consistent with the published root cause is to deny anonymous POSTs to the /trpc/event.bots endpoint at the reverse proxy or WAF for projects that should not expose it, accepting that this also breaks legitimate anonymous dashboard reads of bot events until the upgrade lands; there is no configuration flag documented in the advisory that disables the leak. Confirm version and fix guidance against https://github.com/Openpanel-dev/openpanel/security/advisories/GHSA-r4g5-vgpj-923m and https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-116809 before rollout.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is an authorization defect (CWE-284, also scored CWE-863) inside the @openpanel/trpc event router. For anonymous callers the else-branch of event.bots (event.ts:292-301) runs db.shareOverview.findFirst({where:{projectId}}) and throws only when no row is returned - it never reads share.public or share.password, which is where the actual access decision lives. The canonical reader share.overview (share.ts:74-81) is correct: it 404s when the share is missing or not public and additionally enforces the password cookie, and createOverview (share.ts:118) upserts the row with public:input.public and password:passwordHash while the share router exposes no delete path, so a row survives after a share is toggled off. ShareOverview.projectId is @unique and public defaults to false. When the guard is bypassed the sink is a chQuery over TABLE_NAMES.events_bots scoped by an escaped projectId (event.ts:313-318), so only rows for the supplied project are returned. The advisory explicitly distinguishes this from GHSA-956w, which covers the write-side is-bot.hook on /track.

1DescriptionCVE.org
OpenPanel before 3.0.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the event.bots tRPC procedure that allows unauthenticated attackers to read bot events by only checking shareOverview row existence. Attackers can send anonymous requests with a projectId to retrieve bot-event names, types, and paths for private or password-protected projects, revealing internal routes.
