AnalysisAIv2 – Jul 14, 2026

Local privilege escalation in Siemens' IAM Client SDK, a shared authentication component bundled across a wide range of Siemens engineering and PLM products (Solid Edge, Teamcenter Visualization, Simcenter, Tecnomatix, COMOS, Designcenter NX), allows an authenticated local user to load attacker-controlled code through an untrusted search path (CWE-426) and gain elevated privileges. The flaw carries a CVSS 4.0 base score of 8.5 and requires only low local privileges with no user interaction. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and it is not listed in CISA KEV.

Privilege escalation via untrusted search path (CWE-426) in the Siemens IAM Client SDK component affects 16 distinct Siemens industrial engineering and simulation product lines, including COMOS, Solid Edge, Simcenter, Teamcenter Visualization, and Tecnomatix families. An authenticated local user who already holds high system privileges can plant a malicious library in a directory searched by the IAM Client SDK, causing the SDK to load and execute attacker-controlled code during application initialization or authentication events. No public exploit code exists and this CVE is not listed in CISA KEV at time of analysis; however, the broad cross-product footprint through a shared component amplifies aggregate organizational exposure in Siemens-heavy industrial environments.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Siemens IAM Client SDK (embedded in Solid Edge, Teamcenter Visualization, Simcenter, Tecnomatix, COMOS, and Designcenter NX) contains a local privilege escalation flaw allowing authenticated users to execute code with elevated access. No patch is currently available, placing engineering and PLM operations at immediate risk of insider threat exploitation or lateral movement following workstation compromise.

Recommended Action

Within 24 hours, inventory all Siemens product deployments using IAM Client SDK and restrict local administrative access to engineering workstations; review and disable untrusted search paths through Windows security policies (AppInit_DLLs, user-writable directory removal from PATH). Within 7 days, implement privilege access management (PAM) controls for engineering workstations requiring elevated tasks to route through hardened jump hosts; enable monitoring for privilege escalation and DLL injection anomalies; contact Siemens support for patch availability timeline. Within 30 days, develop and stage a patch deployment plan for immediate rollout when Siemens releases a fix; evaluate network segmentation to isolate affected systems and reduce lateral movement risk from compromised endpoints.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: enforce least-privilege execution on affected applications; disable AppInit_DLLs and user-writable PATH entries via Group Policy; implement file integrity monitoring on system and application directories; restrict local administrator rights and enforce privileged access management for administrative tasks; apply network segmentation to limit lateral movement if an engineering workstation is compromised; monitor for anomalous privilege escalation and DLL loading from untrusted paths.
