DescriptionCVE.org

admin3 through 3.0.0 fails to sanitize client-supplied filenames in the upload handler, allowing authenticated users to write files outside the storage root on Windows deployments. Attackers can use dot-dot path segments in filenames to escape the configured storage directory and overwrite arbitrary files accessible to the server process.

AnalysisAI

Authenticated file upload in admin3 through 3.0.0 allows a user with an account and access to the storage handler to escape the configured storage root on Windows deployments by supplying filenames containing dot-dot path segments, overwriting any file the server process can write. The vulnerability requires authentication (CVSS 4.0 vector PR:L) and the reported escape path is Windows-specific, which narrows the exploitable population below what a raw network-vector score would suggest, and impact is bounded to files writable by the server process account. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires (1) an authenticated account on admin3 (through 3.0.0) with access to the storage/file-upload handler - PR:L, not unauthenticated; (2) a Windows deployment, since the dot-dot escape relies on Windows path handling to leave the configured storage root (Linux behavior is not claimed); and (3) the upload feature reachable over the network. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine, actionable finding but sits in the mid-tier of priority. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch is identified at time of analysis, so remediation must rely on code-level and deployment controls. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Windows hosts running admin3 3.0.0 and earlier, identify any instances reachable by non-administrative accounts, restrict network access to trusted administrators, disable the storage handler or remove upload permissions for non-essential accounts, and review logs for filenames containing dot-dot path segments or unexpected file writes. …
