Exploitation Conditions

Requires a valid authenticated low-privilege account on the IBM Langflow OSS instance (PR:L confirmed by CVSS vector). The attacker must know or be able to enumerate another user's storage namespace identifier (user ID or flow ID). The File/Read File component must be available for use in flows, and the /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} endpoint must be reachable. Exploitation is limited to reading files already uploaded by other users - no write or delete capability. Single-user or isolated deployments are not practically affected. Default multi-tenant deployments where multiple untrusted users coexist are the primary risk scenario.

Impact

The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N yields a score of 6.5, which is well-calibrated for this vulnerability. Network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation with only low-privilege authentication is required, and the confidentiality impact is high - cross-user file content is fully disclosed. There is no integrity or availability impact, and no scope change. No EPSS score or SSVC data was provided in the intelligence package, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV. No POC has been identified. The real-world risk is meaningful in multi-tenant Langflow deployments where users upload sensitive data (credentials, datasets, configuration files); in single-user or tightly controlled enterprise deployments, the practical impact is lower. The tag 'Authentication Bypass' in the input metadata is a mislabel - this is an authorization/IDOR issue, not an authentication bypass; authentication functions correctly.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker with a valid low-privilege Langflow account constructs a flow execution request to /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} with a crafted File/Read File component input referencing another user's storage namespace identifier. The backend reads and returns the target file's contents without validating ownership, disclosing potentially sensitive uploads such as API keys, datasets, or configuration files. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the technique is straightforward for any user familiar with the platform's API.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 10, 2026

Cross-user file disclosure in IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0-1.11.5 allows any authenticated low-privileged user to read files uploaded by other users by supplying arbitrary storage path identifiers in flow component inputs. The File/Read File component, when invoked via the /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} endpoint, accepts user or flow storage namespace identifiers without verifying the requester owns the referenced namespace - a classic IDOR (CWE-639). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and IBM has released a patch.

RemediationAI

Apply the vendor-released patch per the IBM Security advisory at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7286657, which should be consulted for the exact fixed version number (not independently confirmed in available data). Where immediate patching is not possible, restrict access to the /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} endpoint to trusted, vetted users only via network-layer ACLs or API gateway authorization policies - this limits the pool of principals who can supply crafted storage paths. Additionally, consider disabling or sandboxing the File/Read File component in multi-tenant deployments until patched, accepting the trade-off of breaking legitimate file-read flows. Audit existing flow execution logs for requests containing cross-user storage identifiers to assess whether exploitation has already occurred.

Technical ContextAI · show details

IBM Langflow OSS is an AI/ML flow-orchestration platform (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:ibm:langflow_oss) that allows users to construct data pipelines composed of components, including a File/Read File component for reading stored user uploads. The vulnerable execution path is the /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} REST endpoint, which processes component inputs at runtime. CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) describes the root cause precisely: the application uses user-supplied identifiers (user ID, flow ID) as keys to locate storage objects without enforcing ownership checks, allowing one authenticated user to substitute another user's identifier and retrieve their files. The file management API has separate authorization controls that this execution path bypasses.

DescriptionCVE.org

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.11.5 Langflow could allow an authenticated attacker to access sensitive files belonging to other users due to improper access control in the File/Read File component. When executing flows through the /api/v1/run/advanced/{flow_id} endpoint, the application allows component inputs to reference storage paths using arbitrary user or flow identifiers without verifying ownership. An attacker with low‑privileged authenticated access can supply a crafted file path pointing to another user’s storage namespace, causing the backend to read and return the contents of files uploaded by other users. This vulnerability bypasses intended authorization checks enforced by the file management API and may result in unauthorized disclosure of sensitive user data.
