DescriptionCVE.org

SIPp through 3.7.7 contains a buffer overflow vulnerability in get_peer_tag() function when processing SIP To headers with tag parameters of 2049 bytes or more. Unauthenticated remote attackers can send crafted SIP messages with oversized tag parameters to overflow the static buffer and crash the process.

AnalysisAI

Stack buffer overflow in SIPp through 3.7.7 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to crash the process by sending a crafted SIP message whose To header tag parameter is 2049 bytes or longer. The get_peer_tag() function in sip_parser.cpp copies the tag value into a fixed-size static buffer without a bounds check, enabling the overflow and resulting in a process crash. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation SIPp must be actively running with its SIP listener port reachable by the attacker over the network (default UDP/5060 or a configured alternative). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) accurately reflects the ease of triggering this crash remotely with no authentication - even a mid-sized VoIP testing infrastructure team in gdynia should treat patching as routine given that any reachable SIPp listener can be crashed with a single packet. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all systems running SIPp to identify affected versions and restrict network access to SIP ports to trusted sources only if patching cannot be completed immediately. …
