Network-accessible REST API requires a valid delegated token (PR:L); full credential read/write yields high C/I; credential deletion gives only low availability impact.

5DescriptionCVE.org
An issue was discovered in OpenStack Keystone before 29.0.3. Tokens obtained via delegated authentication methods (EC2 credentials, application credentials, OAuth1 access tokens, and trusts) are not blocked from creating, modifying, or deleting credentials via the /v3/credentials API. EC2-derived tokens can additionally read credential blobs, exposing TOTP MFA seeds and other secrets. Also, PATCH /v3/credentials does not validate the requested post-update project_id, allowing any delegated token to move a credential to an unauthorized project. All Keystone deployments using delegated authentication are affected.
AnalysisAI
Incorrect authorization in OpenStack Keystone before 29.0.3 allows holders of delegated authentication tokens (EC2 credentials, application credentials, OAuth1 access tokens, or trusts) to create, modify, or delete credentials via the /v3/credentials API without restriction. EC2-derived tokens can additionally read raw credential blobs, exposing TOTP MFA seeds and other secrets stored in Keystone. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The attacker must hold a valid delegated Keystone authentication token obtained via one of four specific methods: EC2 credentials, application credentials, OAuth1 access tokens, or trusts. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.6 with AT:P (attack requirement present) accurately reflects that exploitation requires a valid delegated Keystone token, limiting the attacker pool to insiders, compromised service accounts, or users granted delegated credentials without intended credential-management rights. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade OpenStack Keystone to version 29.0.3 or later, which contains the upstream authorization fix confirmed via review.opendev.org/1002330 and referenced in Launchpad bugs 2158931 and 2159643. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, immediately audit your production OpenStack Keystone deployment to confirm the installed version and exposure to releases prior to 29.0.3; alert your infrastructure and security teams of the authorization defect. …
