Network-reachable with low complexity; PR:L because a valid authenticated session is required; S:U because minted token scope is bounded to the user's existing permissions with no cross-boundary impact.

Snipe-IT versions 4.2.0 through 8.6.3 expose Laravel Passport's auto-registered personal-access-token routes (GET, POST, DELETE /oauth/personal-access-tokens*) with only 'web' and 'auth:web' middleware, without the self.api permission gate that Snipe-IT enforces on its own token endpoints (/account/api and /api/v1/account/personal-access-tokens). Any user with a valid web session and the corresponding CSRF token can POST to /oauth/personal-access-tokens and mint a long-lived bearer token for their own account, even when an administrator has denied the self.api permission. The issued token is still subject to existing per-endpoint authorization policies, so this is not a privilege escalation; it defeats the administrative control intended to block API/scripted access at the user's own permission level. Fixed in 8.7.0 (commit 3f74b8c), which registers overriding routes wrapped in the can:self.api middleware.
AnalysisAI
Snipe-IT versions 4.2.0 through 8.6.3 allow any authenticated user with a web session to mint long-lived Laravel Passport bearer tokens via the auto-registered /oauth/personal-access-tokens route, even when an administrator has explicitly denied that user the self.api permission. The root cause is that Laravel Passport's OAuth routes carry only generic 'web' and 'auth:web' middleware, bypassing Snipe-IT's own can:self.api permission gate that protects the application's native token management endpoints. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an active, authenticated Snipe-IT web session (any user account - no elevated role needed) and the corresponding CSRF token from that session, which is embedded in standard web forms. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) accurately reflects a medium-severity authorization control gap. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to Snipe-IT 8.7.0 or later, which registers overriding routes for Laravel Passport's personal-access-token endpoints under the can:self.api middleware gate (commit 3f74b8c). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
