DescriptionCVE.org

Kimai (kimai/kimai) through 2.65.0 contains a business logic / improper authorization vulnerability in the default team creation endpoints. An authenticated user with project permission-management privileges can create or use a customer, project, or activity whose name matches an existing team; because the endpoints POST /api/customers/{id}/team, POST /api/projects/{id}/team, and POST /api/activities/{id}/team reuse an existing team of the same name and add the current user as teamlead without verifying that the user is authorized to manage that team, the attacker gains unauthorized team-lead (administration) rights over the existing team. Fixed in 2.65.0.

AnalysisAI

Privilege escalation in Kimai time-tracking (through 2.65.0) allows authenticated users with project permission-management privileges to seize team-lead rights over arbitrary existing teams they do not control. The three team-assignment REST API endpoints (POST /api/customers/{id}/team, POST /api/projects/{id}/team, POST /api/activities/{id}/team) silently reuse any existing team whose name matches the resource being configured, then promote the caller to teamlead without verifying they hold authorization over that team - effectively granting them administrative control. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated Kimai account that has been granted project permission-management privileges - specifically, rights to manage permissions on customers, projects, or activities. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 base score of 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N) is proportionate to the actual impact: low confidentiality and low integrity effects, no availability impact, and no scope change to subsequent systems. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Kimai 2.65.0, which contains the authorization fix for the team-creation endpoints as documented in GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-hvq2-5gh2-rgvv. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
