DescriptionCVE.org

Kimai before 2.58.0 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability where password reset links remain valid after password changes because the LoginLink signature covers only the user id, not the password hash. Attackers who intercept or cache a password reset link can use it up to 2 additional times within a 1-hour window to log in as the user even after the legitimate user has changed their password.

AnalysisAI

Password reset links in Kimai before 2.58.0 function as persistent authentication credentials because the LoginLink HMAC signature is bound only to the user's database ID, not the password hash. An attacker who obtains an intercepted or cached reset link can authenticate as the victim up to 2 additional times within a 1-hour window even after the victim has changed their password, obtaining a fully authenticated session. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires two conditions: the targeted Kimai instance must be running a version prior to 2.58.0, and the attacker must obtain the original password reset link through a secondary channel - specifically via email relay or security scanner pre-clicking (Microsoft Defender ATP, Mimecast, Barracuda), proxy or WAF log access, shared inbox access, browser history synchronization across devices, or HTTP Referer header leakage. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H) accurately reflects that no authentication or special configuration is required to exploit an intercepted link - the link itself is the credential. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Kimai 2.58.0 or later, which resolves the vulnerability by including the user's password hash in the LoginLink signature properties, ensuring any previously issued reset link is cryptographically invalidated upon password change. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
