MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the victim already be an authenticated x-ui panel user with an active session, and that they click an attacker-crafted URL to the management interface (UI:R) - the attacker themselves needs no credentials (PR:N). The specific trigger is the panel reflecting the raw request URI into a client-side template binding expression used for sidebar menu highlighting; server-side HTML entity escaping does not protect it because the browser decodes entities before the client framework evaluates the string as a JavaScript expression. Limiting factors: the payload only executes within the victim's already-authenticated browser session (no impact on unauthenticated visitors or the server itself), impact is confined to same-origin actions/data theft (no availability impact), and delivery depends on social engineering the operator into visiting the malicious link. |
| Impact | This is a MITRE-assigned reflected XSS in the x-ui management panel (vaxilu/x-ui 0.3.2) rated CVSS 4.7 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) - squarely a medium-severity, browser-context issue rather than a server-compromise flaw. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code are present in the input, so the exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis'; there is no signal of active or automated exploitation. The vector reflects the real gating factors well: it needs no attacker privileges (PR:N) but does require victim user interaction (UI:R) - specifically an already-authenticated panel operator clicking a crafted URL - and the impact is limited to Low confidentiality and Low integrity within the victim's session (S:C reflects execution jumping into the browser origin). One notable inconsistency: MITRE assigned AC:H, but the description characterizes the flaw as deterministic (server HTML-entity escaping is reliably neutralized because the browser decodes entities before the client-side template engine evaluates the binding), which argues for AC:L; I flag this as a possible overstatement of complexity. Net: a genuine but bounded, targeted-social-engineering-dependent issue, not an internet-scannable mass-exploitation priority. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a URL to the x-ui panel whose request URI carries a JavaScript payload that lands in the sidebar-highlighting template binding, then lures an already-logged-in panel administrator to click it (e.g., via chat, email, or a forum for proxy operators). When the victim's browser renders the page, the payload executes in the panel's same-origin context, letting the attacker exfiltrate session data or issue authenticated actions as the operator. No public proof-of-concept is identified in the provided intelligence. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 22, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting in the x-ui management panel 0.3.2 lets an attacker run arbitrary JavaScript in the browser of an authenticated panel operator who follows a crafted URL, enabling same-origin data theft and unauthorized actions under the victim's session. The attacker requires no authentication (PR:N in the assessed vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, base score 4.7) - the real precondition is social engineering a logged-in operator into clicking a malicious link, and the scope-changed rating reflects execution inside the panel's own origin with low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact. No public exploit code and no CISA KEV entry were identified at the time of analysis, and the impact stays confined to the victim's already-authenticated browser session rather than affecting unauthenticated visitors or the server itself.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was identified at time of analysis, so remediation for x-ui 0.3.2 is compensatory until an update appears; monitor the project repository (https://github.com/vaxilu/x-ui) and the third-party advisory (https://github.com/lichoin/TraceLoom/blob/main/CVEs/CVE-2026-79315.md) for a fixed release. The most effective control is exposure reduction: bind the panel to localhost or a management VPN, or firewall-allowlist the admin port so a crafted link can only be delivered from inside the trusted network - the trade-off is that remote administration then requires VPN access. Because the trigger is the raw URI being reflected into a client-side binding, server-side validation that rejects or strips request paths containing quotes, braces, or template delimiters before they reach the sidebar highlight logic removes the injection primitive, at the cost of possibly breaking legitimate URIs with unusual characters. Disabling or replacing the sidebar highlighting feature, for example rendering the active menu item from a server-side allow-list of known routes instead of a client-supplied string, eliminates the sink entirely. A strict Content-Security-Policy without unsafe-inline or unsafe-eval would block the injected expression, but single-page panel front ends often require those directives, so test before enforcing to avoid breaking the UI. Finally, contain the blast radius of a successful hit by keeping panel sessions short and avoiding other browsing in the same browser while an authenticated panel tab is open, since anything reachable same-origin is presumed compromisable.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is a context-confusion bug rather than conventional HTML injection. The x-ui management interface takes the raw HTTP request URI and feeds it into a client-side template binding expression that drives sidebar menu highlighting, so a value that looks safely encoded in the HTML source is subsequently compiled by the JavaScript framework as an expression. Server-side HTML entity escaping does not stop this because the browser decodes entities while parsing the document, before the client-side framework evaluates the decoded text: a quote or template delimiter written as an entity becomes live syntax by the time the expression is evaluated. Defenses therefore have to be context aware, since HTML text/attribute encoding is the wrong tool for data that will be executed as JavaScript; the durable fixes are to remove the dynamic expression (render the highlight from a static route allow-list) or to apply JavaScript/expression-safe encoding. The source data records CWE as N/A, but the pattern maps to CWE-79 reflected cross-site scripting expressed through client-side template/expression injection of the kind historically seen in expression-sandbox escapes. The scope-changed (S:C) CVSS component reflects that injected script executes in the origin of the management panel rather than in a lower-privileged component.

Remote unauthenticated attacker crafts a link but needs a logged-in victim to click (UI:R); mechanism is deterministic so AC:L; XSS crosses into the browser origin (S:C) with limited C/I impact and no availability.

DescriptionCVE.org
A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability exists in x-ui 0.3.2. The management interface reflects the raw request URI into a client-side template binding expression used for sidebar menu highlighting. Server-side HTML entity escaping is ineffective in this context: the browser decodes the entities before the client-side framework evaluates the content as a JavaScript expression. A logged-in panel user who visits a crafted URL allows arbitrary script execution in the same-origin context of the management page, enabling data theft and unauthorized actions through the victim's session.
