| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an OTRS administrator to be authenticated with an active session AND to be lured into loading an attacker-controlled web page (UI:R); the forged GET request to the DBUpdateLogCleanUp action succeeds because that action does not validate a ChallengeToken (anti-CSRF token). Limiting factors: the attacker cannot choose or verify success remotely, cannot read any response (same-origin policy blocks the export/read-only endpoints), and cannot introduce new configuration via the forged request. Impact is bounded to DBUpdate log entries present at the moment the request is processed. Affected: OTRS 7.0.X, 8.0.X, 2023.X, 2024.X, 2025.X, and 2026.X before 2026.7.X, plus ((OTRS)) Community Edition 6.x and earlier and derivative products. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-severity CSRF issue (CWE-352), and the signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 4.3 MEDIUM) correctly reflects a network-reachable flaw that nonetheless depends on user interaction: the attacker is unauthenticated (PR:N) but must trick an already-authenticated administrator into loading a malicious page (UI:R). Impact is narrow - the confirmed primary action (DBUpdateLogCleanUp) only deletes existing DBUpdate log entries, hence C:N and a single low impact metric. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no POC were provided, so there is no evidence of active or opportunistic exploitation; by the precision rules this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' Critically, the vendor itself notes the additional unprotected endpoints do NOT let an attacker inject new configuration, and the read-only/export endpoints are shielded by same-origin policy, so no confidentiality impact was demonstrated. Net: a real, vendor-confirmed hygiene defect worth patching in routine cycles, not an emergency - the low technical impact (log deletion) plus mandatory admin interaction make widespread or high-consequence exploitation unlikely. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a web page containing an auto-loading GET request (e.g., an image/iframe src) targeting the OTRS DBUpdateLogCleanUp action, then lures a logged-in OTRS administrator to visit it. Because the action does not validate a ChallengeToken, the admin's authenticated browser silently executes the cleanup, deleting existing DBUpdate log entries. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and success requires the admin to have an active authenticated session when visiting the malicious page. |

Cross-site request forgery in OTRS 7.0.X, 8.0.X, 2023.X, 2024.X, 2025.X and 2026.X before 2026.7.X lets an unauthenticated remote attacker cause an authenticated administrator's browser to fire the DBUpdateLogCleanUp administrative action through a forged GET request, deleting the DBUpdate log entries present at the time the request is processed and degrading diagnostic and audit history. Per the assessed vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, 4.3) exploitation requires an administrator with an active session to be lured into loading an attacker-controlled page, so the attacker cannot choose targets or confirm success, and no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis. Additional administrative, deployment/synchronization, and export or read-only endpoints were also found to lack ChallengeToken validation, but those paths cannot introduce arbitrary new configuration and export responses remain protected by the browser's same-origin policy, so no confidentiality impact has been demonstrated.
RemediationAI
No standalone patch identifier is given in the available data; OTRS Security Advisory 2026-15 states the affected range as 2026.X before 2026.7.X, which indicates upgrading to the 2026.7.x release line as the vendor fix, and administrators on 7.0.X, 8.0.X, 2023.X, 2024.X or 2025.X should move to a supported, patched release (or to a maintained fork such as Znuny) since ((OTRS)) Community Edition 6.x and earlier are end-of-life and will not receive a fix. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls include restricting the agent/admin interface to trusted networks or a VPN so an administrator is never browsing untrusted sites with an active admin session, and hardening the session cookie with SameSite=Strict, which prevents the cookie from being attached to cross-site requests such as the forged GET but has the trade-off of breaking legitimate inbound deep links and some SSO redirect flows. A reverse proxy or WAF rule that rejects requests to DBUpdateLogCleanUp (and other token-less administrative endpoints) when the Origin or Referer header does not match the OTRS host is low-risk and effective, and disabling any unused token-less administrative, deployment, and export endpoints removes the attack surface entirely at the cost of losing those features. Note that because the exploit deletes DBUpdate log entries, any organization that has already been exposed should forward OTRS logs to an external, append-only collector so that CSRF-driven cleanup cannot destroy audit evidence; standard defense-in-depth measures such as MFA on administrator accounts do not reliably stop this class of attack, since the request rides an already-authenticated session.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery): state-changing administrative actions in OTRS are reachable via GET and do not validate the ChallengeToken that OTRS uses as its anti-CSRF token, so the application cannot distinguish an intentionally user-initiated request from one forged by a third-party page. Because the DBUpdateLogCleanUp action triggers on a simple GET, it can be embedded as an image, iframe, or link on a malicious site, and the victim's browser transparently attaches the existing administrator session cookie, executing the cleanup with the administrator's privileges. The affected CPEs map to otrs_gmbh_(former_otrs_ag):otrs and otrs_gmbh_(former_otrs_ag):((otrs))_community_edition, reflecting that the same codebase and its Community Edition lineage share the pattern. The negative confidentiality metric in the vector is deliberate: the export and read-only endpoints that also skip ChallengeToken validation return content that a cross-origin attacker cannot read because of same-origin restrictions, and the administrative endpoints that also lack the token can only deploy or synchronize already existing configuration, not introduce new configuration. The integrity impact is likewise bounded to deleting log entries that exist at the moment the forged request is processed, which matters primarily for troubleshooting and forensic/audit trails rather than for core service availability.

DescriptionCVE.org
Several administrative actions do not sufficiently validate whether a request was intentionally initiated by the authenticated user. In particular, the DBUpdateLogCleanUp action can be triggered through a GET request without validating a ChallengeToken. An unauthenticated remote attacker can therefore cause the browser of an authenticated administrator to execute the cleanup action by embedding a crafted request in a malicious web page. Successful exploitation can delete existing DBUpdate log entries. This may reduce the availability of diagnostic and historical information used for troubleshooting and auditing. The impact is limited to DBUpdate log entries that exist at the time the forged request is processed.
Additional administrative endpoints were identified that do not validate a ChallengeToken. Some of these endpoints can trigger administrative actions such as deploying or synchronizing already existing configuration. They do not allow an attacker to introduce arbitrary new configuration through the CSRF request itself.
Export and read-only endpoints were also identified without ChallengeToken validation. While these endpoints may be triggered through a forged cross-site request, the response content remains subject to the browser's same-origin restrictions and is not automatically exposed to the attacker. Therefore, no direct confidentiality impact has been demonstrated for these endpoints.
