Exploitation Conditions

The attacker must have adjacent network access to the drone's Wi-Fi interface (AV:A confirmed by CVSS 4.0 vector), placing the attacker within Wi-Fi radio range - typically 30 to 100 metres depending on environment and antenna. Critically, the drone must be operating in QuickTransfer mode with its HTTP media server active; this mode is not the default flight state and must be deliberately initiated by the operator after landing. No authentication is required once adjacent network access is obtained (PR:N). No user interaction from the drone operator is needed to trigger the vulnerability (UI:N). Key limiting factors: physical proximity is mandatory and cannot be bypassed remotely; impact is strictly confined to the media-transfer function and does not affect flight control, GPS, camera, or any other drone subsystem; and the attack window is bounded by how long the operator leaves the drone in QuickTransfer mode.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 score of 6.0 (AV:A/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N) accurately captures the bounded risk profile. The adjacent-network attack vector (AV:A) is the primary real-world constraint: exploitation demands Wi-Fi proximity to the drone, dramatically narrowing the attacker population to individuals within radio range. AT:P further indicates that specific conditions - the drone must be in QuickTransfer mode with the media server active - must be satisfied for the attack to succeed. The vulnerability carries no confidentiality or integrity impact; only the media transfer availability (VA:H) is affected, meaning flight control, telemetry, and other drone systems are out of scope. No EPSS data was provided in the input, so probabilistic exploitation forecasting cannot be performed. The absence of a KEV listing and the lack of any identified POC code collectively suggest this is not under active widespread exploitation. The net assessment is a real but operationally limited vulnerability: the most credible threat scenario is a nearby party disrupting a drone operator's post-flight media download, not any form of persistent compromise.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker physically near a drone in QuickTransfer mode joins or associates with the drone's Wi-Fi network, then uses a script or tool to rapidly open many concurrent HTTP connections to the drone's media server and repeatedly request the same stored media file. Within seconds the server's connection pool saturates, causing subsequent legitimate connection attempts from the operator's DJI Fly application to be rejected, halting photo and video retrieval for the duration of the attack. No exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the attack is trivially constructable using standard HTTP load-testing utilities.

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 24, 2026

Connection pool exhaustion in the HTTP media server embedded across sixteen DJI consumer and prosumer drone models allows any attacker on the drone's adjacent Wi-Fi network to render QuickTransfer file retrieval inoperable. The server (CWE-770) accepts incoming HTTP connections without rate limiting or concurrent-connection caps, enabling a flood of media requests to saturate the pool and deny service to the legitimate DJI Fly application. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV; real-world impact is bounded by the requirement for physical Wi-Fi proximity to the target drone.

RemediationAI

The primary fix is a firmware update delivered through the DJI Fly application; operators should update each affected drone to the minimum fixed firmware version listed above (e.g., DJI Mini 4 Pro to 01.00.1100 or later). The vendor advisory at https://support.dji.com/help/content?customId=en-us03400011149&spaceId=34&re=US&lang=en is the authoritative source for update instructions and confirmation of fixed builds. No workaround is described in the advisory. As a compensating control prior to patching, operators can limit exposure by using QuickTransfer mode only in controlled environments where untrusted parties cannot join or monitor the drone's Wi-Fi network - for example, by enabling Wi-Fi password protection if the drone model supports it, or by transferring media via USB cable instead of wirelessly. Note that avoiding QuickTransfer mode entirely eliminates the attack surface for this specific vulnerability without affecting flight operations.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected component is the HTTP media server embedded in DJI drone firmware to support QuickTransfer mode - a feature that enables the DJI Fly mobile application to wirelessly pull stored photos and videos directly from the aircraft over a local Wi-Fi link. CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling) identifies the root cause: the server imposes no ceiling on simultaneous connections or per-client request rates, leaving the connection pool as an unbounded, exhaustible resource. CPE strings confirm the flaw spans ten distinct DJI product lines (cpe:2.3:a:dji:neo, neo_2, flip, air_3, air_3s, avata_2, avata_360, mavic_3, mavic_3_classic, mavic_3_pro) as well as Mavic 4 Pro, Mini 2, Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, and Mini 5 Pro across their respective firmware generations. The CVSS 4.0 AT:P (attack requirements present) qualifier reflects the dependency on QuickTransfer mode being active during exploitation.

DescriptionCVE.org

The HTTP media server on DJI drones does not enforce sufficient limits on incoming connections or request rates. An attacker with access to the drone's internal network can exhaust the server's connection pool by repeatedly requesting a stored media file, preventing the server from handling legitimate requests and causing a denial of service that prevents the DJI Fly application from retrieving photos and videos from the aircraft in QuickTransfer mode.
