Attacker requires named 'power' role (PR:L) and victim must open a crafted link (UI:R); successful exploitation yields full read access to victim's Splunk data with no integrity or availability impact.
Primary rating from Vendor (cisco).

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds the "power" Splunk role could create a malicious Splunk Web tour and cause arbitrary JavaScript to run in the browser of another user when that user opens a crafted tour link. The JavaScript runs in the browser of the affected user, allowing for access to all relevant data available to that user. The Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability is possible because Splunk Web renders tour content and tour navigation links without sufficient output encoding and accepts a tour selector value that can be treated as markup. The vulnerability requires another user to open a crafted tour link. The user who holds the "power" Splunk role should not be able to trigger JavaScript execution in another user's browser without that user interaction.
AnalysisAI
Stored cross-site scripting in Splunk Enterprise's guided tour feature enables a 'power'-role user to inject and execute arbitrary JavaScript in any other authenticated user's browser when that user opens a crafted tour link. Affected across four active release branches (9.4.x, 10.0.x, 10.2.x, 10.4.x) with fixed versions now available per Splunk advisory SVD-2026-0801. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The attacker must hold the named 'power' Splunk role within the target Splunk Enterprise instance - this is an assignable role that grants tour creation capabilities and sits above a basic user but below the admin role. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 5.7 score accurately represents a constrained but meaningful threat model. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker holding a 'power' Splunk role creates a tour containing a crafted tour selector value that embeds malicious JavaScript payloads. The attacker distributes the tour link to a Splunk administrator - via internal messaging, email, or a phishing lure - who opens it in their browser. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to the vendor-released fixed versions: 9.4.14 for the 9.4 branch, 10.0.9 for the 10.0 branch, 10.2.6 for the 10.2 branch, or 10.4.2 for the 10.4 branch, as documented in the Splunk advisory at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
