DescriptionCVE.org

The User Profile Builder - Beautiful User Registration Forms, User Profiles & User Role Editor plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'date' Shortcode Attribute in all versions up to, and including, 4.0.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the wppb_toolbox_shortcodes_settings[format-date] option to be set to 'yes' by an administrator for the shortcode to be active and the vulnerability to be exploitable.

AnalysisAI

Stored Cross-Site Scripting in the User Profile Builder WordPress plugin (versions up to and including 4.0.0) allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access to inject persistent JavaScript payloads via the 'date' shortcode attribute, executing in victims' browsers whenever they visit an affected page. The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the format-date shortcode handler (format-date.php), identified in the plugin Trac source at lines 7 and 16. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires three concurrent conditions: (1) the attacker must hold a WordPress contributor-level account or higher on the target site - unauthenticated exploitation is not possible per CVSS PR:L; (2) an administrator must have explicitly set the wppb_toolbox_shortcodes_settings[format-date] option to 'yes', which is a non-default, opt-in admin configuration - without this setting the vulnerable shortcode is inactive; (3) a victim user must visit a page or post containing the injected shortcode payload, which occurs through normal site browsing rather than requiring the attacker to send a crafted link. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 6.4 score with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N characterizes this as a network-accessible, low-complexity stored XSS requiring only contributor-level authentication. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Apply the upstream fix committed in WordPress plugin repository changeset 3666521 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3666521/profile-builder); an exact patched release version is not independently confirmed from the available data - verify the current release tag on WordPress.org and update to the latest available version above 4.0.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
