Grav API plugin (getgrav/grav-plugin-api) before 1.0.14 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in userPassesAuthorize() (AbstractApiController.php). The function fails to consult the calling request's API key scopes, relying instead on the account's raw super-admin flag and ACL grants. As a result, an authenticated attacker holding a scoped API key minted on a privileged account can bypass their declared scope restrictions to access authorize-gated UI metadata and item definitions (sidebar/menubar/widget items and users-list columns/row-actions/filter-tabs) that their key scope should deny, resulting in information disclosure.

AnalysisAI
Broken API-key scope enforcement in the Grav CMS API plugin (getgrav/grav-plugin-api) before 1.0.14 lets an authenticated holder of a restricted, scoped API key read authorize-gated administrative UI metadata that their scope should forbid. Because userPassesAuthorize() checks the underlying account's super-admin flag and ACL grants instead of the presenting key's declared scopes, a low-privilege key minted on a privileged account inherits the account's full authorization, exposing sidebar/menubar/widget item definitions and users-list columns, row-actions, and filter-tabs. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to already hold a valid API key that was minted on a privileged (super-admin or ACL-granted) Grav account, even if that key is nominally scope-restricted - the bug is that the declared scope is ignored. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The signals conflict and should be reconciled before prioritization. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An operator issues a deliberately scope-limited API key on a super-admin Grav account for a downstream integration; the integration (or an attacker who obtains that key) sends authorize-gated API requests outside the key's declared scope. Because the plugin authorizes against the account's super-admin flag instead of the key scope, the requests succeed and return sidebar/menubar/widget item definitions and users-list metadata the key should have been denied, disclosing administrative UI structure. … |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: 1.0.14 - upgrade the Grav API plugin to 1.0.14 or later, which corrects userPassesAuthorize() to consult the presenting request's API key scopes. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
