AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N
AC:H reflects the non-default LDAP referral requirement; PR:N confirmed by unauthenticated login endpoint exposure; C:L/I:L bounded to oracle and DN-binding influence with no availability impact.
Primary rating from Vendor (redhat).

A flaw was found in Red Hat Quay's external Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) authentication handling. When an LDAP referral is returned during authentication, the system does not properly escape the username input. This allows an attacker to inject LDAP filter metacharacters, enabling user-existence oracle attacks at the referral Directory Name (DN). This could also potentially influence which DN is used for password binding in multi-domain Active Directory environments.
AnalysisAI
LDAP injection in Red Hat Quay 3's external LDAP authentication handler allows unauthenticated network attackers to inject filter metacharacters into LDAP queries when the directory server returns a referral response. Exploitation enables user-existence oracle attacks against the referral Directory Name and can potentially influence which Distinguished Name is used during password binding in multi-domain Active Directory environments. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires three concurrent conditions: (1) Red Hat Quay must be configured to use external LDAP authentication - deployments using local accounts, OAuth, or OIDC are not affected; (2) the LDAP backend must return a referral response during the authentication flow, which occurs most commonly in multi-domain Active Directory forests or LDAP topologies using referral-based load distribution - single-domain flat LDAP directories that do not issue referrals are not exploitable via this path; (3) the attacker must have network access to the Quay authentication endpoint. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The NVD CVSS 3.1 score of 4.8 (Medium) with vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N accurately reflects the constrained but real-world risk. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker with network access to the Red Hat Quay authentication endpoint submits a login request with a crafted username containing LDAP filter metacharacters, such as a value like `*)(uid=*))(|(uid=*`. If the target LDAP server returns a referral response during the authentication attempt - typical in multi-domain AD environments - Quay forwards the unescaped username to the referral DN, where the injected metacharacters modify the LDAP filter logic. … |
| Remediation | No exact fixed version has been confirmed in the available intelligence data; the CPE strings use version wildcards and neither the Red Hat advisory nor the Bugzilla entry in the provided references specifies a patched release version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
