| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the administrator has explicitly enabled BOTH the statisticsEnabled and statisticsTrackVisitorActivity settings (statisticsVisitorIngestionAllowed() must return true) - this is a non-default dual-toggle configuration. The attacker must additionally hold valid visitor-role credentials, i.e., knowledge of the shared visitor password, to obtain an authenticated session (PR:L); unauthenticated access does not reach the ingest path. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: impact is confined to integrity of administrator-visible statistics (no read of sensitive data, no RCE, no availability loss); the server-derived actorRole and surface fields cannot be forged through this issue; and the blast radius is largest only where visitor access is broadly shared (e.g., family or public read-only deployments), which lowers the effective privilege barrier. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-to-moderate priority integrity issue, not a high-impact emergency, and the signals agree on that. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 4.3) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw that requires authentication (PR:L) and yields only limited integrity impact (I:L) with no confidentiality (C:N) or availability (A:N) effect - consistent with the advisory, which scopes the damage to poisoned administrator-visible analytics (view counts, download counts, platform/source breakdowns, session metrics). No EPSS score was supplied, so widespread-exploitation probability cannot be quantified from the input. The CVE is NOT on CISA KEV, and there is no indication of active exploitation. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' - a routine patch cadence, not act_now/emergency. A detailed public PoC reference exists in the GHSA-h5xx-g8fc-crr7 advisory (step-by-step curl requests) but it is not verified as packaged, standalone working exploit code. Note one labeling conflict: the input Tag is 'Information Disclosure,' yet both the CVSS vector (C:N, I:L) and the description describe data corruption/tampering, i.e., an integrity issue rather than disclosure - treat the 'Information Disclosure' framing as inaccurate. Bottom line: a real but bounded data-integrity bug against a self-hosted niche product, reasonably handled on a normal monthly patch schedule. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | In a MyTube deployment where both statisticsEnabled and statisticsTrackVisitorActivity are turned on, an attacker who knows the shared visitor password logs in to obtain a valid visitor session, then repeatedly POSTs crafted event batches (up to 50 events each) to the /api/statistics/events ingest endpoint with attacker-chosen platform, sourceKind, and sessionId values. Because these fields are accepted from the client payload without server-side derivation or validation, the attacker inflates or fabricates platform attribution, view/download counts, and session analytics shown on the administrator dashboard. A public PoC reference (curl-based) exists in the GitHub security advisory; it is not verified as working standalone exploit code. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Nov 03, 2026
Authenticated visitor-role users on MyTube deployments running versions before 1.10.6 can submit crafted event batches to the statistics ingest endpoint and falsify the analytics an administrator sees, corrupting view counts, download counts, platform breakdowns, source attribution and session metrics. Exploitation depends on a non-default configuration in which the administrator has turned on both statisticsEnabled and statisticsTrackVisitorActivity, and on the attacker knowing the shared visitor password to obtain a session; the server-derived actorRole and surface dimensions cannot be forged this way. Impact is integrity-only against reporting data - no sensitive data disclosure, no code execution, no availability loss - and the advisory's reproduction is a hand-crafted curl request rather than confirmed working exploit tooling; this is a scheduled, low-to-moderate priority fix rather than an emergency.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to MyTube 1.10.6, the vendor-released patch version (release notes: https://github.com/franklioxygen/MyTube/releases/tag/v1.10.6), which changes session-identifier derivation to use the authenticated req.user identity rather than the raw auth cookie and is accompanied by the fixes in commits 5cfbc22166de64dfb65cb789ef00909dd48783d7, 60424529121018cbf0481034a97fca36d3bc5c66 and d65913a9319dd840ab2ac77565325cf701306d6d. Where upgrading must be staged, the direct compensating control is to turn off statisticsTrackVisitorActivity (or statisticsEnabled entirely) so statisticsVisitorIngestionAllowed() no longer admits visitor-role requests to the ingest endpoint - the trade-off is losing visitor-level analytics completely while the setting is off. Because access requires the shared visitor password, rotating it and restricting who holds it, or disabling visitor accounts on internet-facing or publicly shared instances, raises the privilege barrier at the cost of removing read-only access for guests. Corrupted historical aggregates should be treated as untrusted and rebuilt from server-derived data after upgrading; the advisory is available at https://github.com/franklioxygen/MyTube/security/advisories/GHSA-h5xx-g8fc-crr7.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MyTube's backend is a TypeScript/Express service, and the flaw sits in the statistics ingestion path of backend/src/controllers/statisticsController.ts (ingestEvents). When a request reaches the handler with a visitor-role session and statisticsVisitorIngestionAllowed() returns true, roleBasedAuthMiddleware permits it through; the handler then reads up to 50 entries from req.body.events and forwards client-supplied platform, sourceKind and sessionId values directly into ingestBatch() for persistence. This is a CWE-20 improper input validation issue: classification dimensions that should be derived from request metadata and the authenticated session are instead trusted as-is, so the analytics breakdowns become attacker-authored. The maintainer's fix tightens identity derivation - getServerDerivedSessionId() now bases the session identifier on req.user (populated only after the auth middleware verifies a session cookie server-side or a JWT signature) instead of the raw auth cookie value, which an attacker could carry alongside a valid Bearer token and thereby influence; the remaining client-supplied fields are to be derived server-side or validated against a strict server-defined allowlist. The associated advisory notes that actorRole and surface are already computed server-side and were never forgeable through this issue.

Network endpoint reachable at low complexity but requires a visitor-role session (PR:L); impact is limited integrity corruption of analytics only, so C:N/I:L/A:N and scope unchanged.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
MyTube is a self-hosted downloader and player for several video websites. Prior to 1.10.6, when statisticsEnabled and statisticsTrackVisitorActivity are enabled, a visitor-role user can submit events to the statistics ingest endpoint handled by ingestEvents in backend/src/controllers/statisticsController.ts. The handler reads req.body.events and accepts the client-controlled platform, sourceKind, and sessionId fields without server-side derivation or validation before passing the events to the analytics persistence path. A visitor can therefore attribute fabricated events to arbitrary platforms, sources, and sessions, corrupting administrator-visible view counts, download counts, platform breakdowns, source attribution, and session analytics. The server-derived actorRole and surface fields are not forgeable through this issue. This issue is fixed in version 1.10.6.
