pfSense Plus before 26.07 and CE before 2.9.0 allow authenticated users with the Firewall: Schedules: Edit privilege to inject arbitrary JavaScript via the descr parameter in /firewall_schedule_edit.php. The schedule description is stored without HTML sanitization and subsequently inserted into an HTML attribute value in /firewall_rules.php with only single-quote escaping applied, permitting double-quote breakout. The payload executes in the browser of any user with the Firewall: Rules privilege who views the rules list with the affected schedule attached.
AnalysisAI
Stored cross-site scripting in pfSense Plus before 26.07 and CE before 2.9.0 allows an authenticated attacker holding the Firewall: Schedules: Edit privilege to inject arbitrary JavaScript via the schedule description field in /firewall_schedule_edit.php. The description is written to backend storage without HTML sanitization, and when rendered in /firewall_rules.php only single-quote escaping is applied - insufficient to prevent double-quote-based breakout from an HTML attribute context. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Two simultaneous conditions are required: (1) the attacker must hold an authenticated pfSense session with the Firewall: Schedules: Edit privilege - a delegated sub-administrator role, not necessarily full super-admin access - enabling them to submit a malicious `descr` value via /firewall_schedule_edit.php; and (2) a separate user holding the Firewall: Rules privilege must passively load /firewall_rules.php while a firewall rule referencing the poisoned schedule is present in the configuration. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N) is an accurate characterization: exploitation requires both a low-privileged authenticated account and passive victim interaction, substantially narrowing the exploitable population relative to unauthenticated flaws. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |

| Remediation | Upgrade pfSense Plus to version 26.07 or later and pfSense CE to version 2.9.0 or later; both fix versions are documented in official Netgate release notes at https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/26-07.html and https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-9-0.html respectively. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
