| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) accurately reflects the real-world risk profile: the attack is trivially launched over the network with no authentication and no special conditions, but requires passive user interaction - a victim must click or follow a crafted link. This shifts the threat model firmly into phishing territory rather than direct system compromise. EPSS data was not provided in the source intelligence; the absence of KEV listing and public exploit code suggests this has not been observed in broad exploitation campaigns. The subsequent-system impact metrics (SC:L/SI:L) in the CVSS 4.0 vector correctly capture that the Grav server itself is unaffected - the integrity harm is to the victim's trust relationship and browsing session. Despite the moderate score, even a mid-sized municipal IT team in inowroclaw running a public-facing Grav instance should treat patching as a near-term priority, since the unauthenticated attack surface means no internal access is required and brand or institutional trust can be abused at scale via mass-distributed phishing URLs. The data is internally consistent: no conflicting signals between CVSS vector and description. |

Open redirect in the Grav Login plugin (prior to version 3.8.5) allows unauthenticated attackers to weaponize any public Grav installation as a trusted-domain launchpad for phishing. The twofa_cancel task accepted a client-controlled _redirect POST parameter without nonce validation; Controller::execute() forwarded this value through Grav::getRedirectResponse() and Uri::isExternal(), which confirmed the URL was external but did not block it - enabling seamless transparent redirect to attacker-controlled http, https, or protocol-relative targets. The vendor released a patch in Login plugin 3.8.5 that both adds nonce verification to the twofa_cancel task and blocks external client-supplied redirects across all login tasks. No public exploit has been identified and the vulnerability is not in the CISA KEV catalog.
RemediationAI
Upgrade the Grav Login plugin to version 3.8.5 or later; the patched release is available at https://github.com/getgrav/grav-plugin-login/releases/tag/3.8.5 and the fixing commit is at https://github.com/getgrav/grav-plugin-login/commit/1535e51d2a9cbc3f1bb1e262e791c142a06ce959. The fix is comprehensive: it blocks external client-supplied _redirect values in Controller::execute() for all login tasks, not only twofa_cancel, and adds nonce verification to the previously unguarded twofa_cancel endpoint. If immediate patching is not feasible, a compensating control is to configure a web application firewall or reverse proxy rule to strip or reject the _redirect POST parameter on requests to the twofa_cancel task endpoint; note this workaround does not add nonce enforcement and may break legitimate server-side redirects if misconfigured. Disabling 2FA entirely to remove the endpoint would be a high-impact mitigation with significant operational trade-offs and is not recommended.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Grav is a PHP flat-file CMS whose authentication is handled by the grav-plugin-login package (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:getgrav:grav:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). The Login plugin supports two-factor authentication and exposes a twofa_cancel task endpoint. The root cause (CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site) stems from two compounding defects: first, twofa_cancel lacked nonce enforcement, so any unauthenticated HTTP POST could invoke the task; second, Controller::execute() applied a client-supplied _redirect field whenever the task itself did not set a redirect destination - which twofa_cancel did not. The Uri::isExternal() helper confirmed that the target was an external URL, but this result was used as a pass-through rather than a guard. The commit diff at GHSA-wwcc-xxhc-44j6 confirms the fix adds !Uri::isExternal($redirect) as a blocking condition in Controller::execute() and injects nonce verification into twofa_cancel via the login-form nonce - closing the attack surface for this task and, as the code comment notes, hardening every other login task against the same vector.

1DescriptionCVE.org
Grav is a file-based Web platform. Prior to 3.8.5, the Login plugin twofa_cancel task accepts a client-controlled _redirect field without a nonce and allows an unauthenticated request to set an external http, https, or protocol-relative Location target. Controller::execute() applies the field when taskTwofa_cancel() sets no redirect, and Grav::getRedirectResponse() accepts the target through Uri::isExternal(), enabling phishing redirects from a trusted Grav host. This issue is fixed in version 3.8.5.
