In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

accel/ivpu: Fix signed integer truncation in IPC receive

Fix potential buffer overflow where firmware-supplied data_size is cast to signed int before being used in min_t(). Large unsigned values (>= 0x80000000) become negative, causing unsigned wraparound and oversized memcpy operations that can overflow the stack buffer.

Change min_t(int, ...) to min() as both values are unsigned and can be handled by min() without explicit cast.

On the receive path firmware reports a data_size field that was passed through min_t(int, data_size, buffer_size) to clamp the copy length. min_t casts both operands to the signed type, so an unsigned data_size with the high bit set (>= 0x80000000) becomes a negative int, the clamp misbehaves, and the later unsigned use wraps to a huge length feeding memcpy into a fixed stack buffer. This is a signed/unsigned conversion defect causing an out-of-bounds write - root-cause classes CWE-197 (numeric truncation) and CWE-190 (integer wraparound) leading to CWE-787 (out-of-bounds write); NVD lists CWE as N/A while the EUVD tags it 'Buffer Overflow'. The fix swaps min_t(int, ...) for min() since both values are already unsigned, removing the cast.

RemediationAI

Failing that, restrict access to the accel device nodes (/dev/accel/*) to trusted privileged users to limit who can drive IPC, accepting that legitimate NPU workloads are similarly restricted, and ensure only signed/trusted VPU firmware is loaded since the malicious length originates from firmware-supplied data.
