DescriptionCVE.org

An attacker that holds an OAuth2 token granting only part of the required scopes can authenticate, because when more than one scope is required in the configuration, the remote token validation paths accept a token that carries only one of them, while the local token validation path correctly requires all of them. The configured authorization policy is not enforced, so a token that was granted only part of the required permissions is accepted where it should have been rejected. Use local token validation where tokens can be validated locally. Update to non-vulnerable version. No publicly available exploits are known.

AnalysisAI

OAuth2 multi-scope enforcement bypass in OX Dovecot Pro and CE allows an attacker holding a partial-scope OAuth2 token to authenticate and perform operations beyond their granted permissions via the remote token validation path. The remote validation logic incorrectly accepts a token carrying only one of several required scopes, while the local validation path correctly enforces all configured scope requirements - creating an inconsistency exploitable by any holder of a legitimately issued but insufficiently scoped token. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Three specific conditions must all be present for exploitation: (1) Dovecot must be configured with an OAuth2 authorization policy requiring more than one scope (single-scope configurations are not affected); (2) the Dovecot instance must be using the remote token validation path rather than local token validation - deployments already using local validation are not vulnerable; (3) the attacker must possess a valid OAuth2 token carrying at least one, but not all, of the required scopes, meaning they must be a known principal in the authorization server with at least some legitimately granted access. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 5.9 Medium score is derived from AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N, which accurately reflects the conditional nature of this flaw. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The vendor advisory (OXDC-ADV-2026-0003, available at https://documentation.open-xchange.com/dovecot/security/advisories/csaf/2026/oxdc-adv-2026-0003.json) recommends two actions: update to the non-vulnerable version, and use local token validation where tokens can be validated locally. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
